No matter how un-eco friendly she would appear now, losing her from the skies is a travesty. Concorde was beautiful and everybody knew it by sight & sound - I miss seeing her over my home daily plying the routes across the pond! A true Anglo-French miracle

I worked in the Stress Office at Filton, on Concorde. When the UK prototype took off on its first flight everyone rushed over to the office windows overlooking the runway. The Personnel Manager came over and started shouting, "Back to your seats", "I'm taking names". That's Personnel Managers for you!

@@greebo7857 That's dumb reasoning. Being eco friendly is not a matter of yes/no. People just existing is not eco friendly. But that's not the point anyway. The plane wasn't profitable. Being cool isn't enough.

During the construction of the M25 (yes there was a time when that traffic was somewhere else) our site offices were near the end of the Heathrow runway. We used to pause the meeting to watch it head off to New York. Noise wasn’t an issue, it seemed no louder than the other jet aircraft. It was just the sheer grace and beauty that stopped our work for a few seconds before we returned to discussing mud and concrete. Concorde is sadly missed.

Are you out of your cotton pickin mind? On occasion I watched the Concord take off from Kennedy, it made at least twice the noise of a regular jet. Lots of black smoke too. It was a huge white elephant. It used up 5 times the fuel and saved you only three hours.

Concorde was the only plane that could stir such memories and feelings. Such an awesome beautiful flying bird. It flew overhead once when I was travelling near London Heathrow. Reading was on the direct flight path from Heathrow to the Atlantic. The clerk would say to us, "At around 11 o'clock Concorde goes over. You will not be able to make yourself heard for the noise so don't even try!" It was true. Where I live is very close to Farnborough, the home of the famous air show. We were in the garden one day when there was this huge roar and one of the Concorde prototypes zoomed over from the east before curving round to go back the the airfield. It was really low and just amazing. Not going very fast, not aiming for supersonic speeds it what can only have been a flight of a few minutes. Magical.

early to mid 1990`s was stuck in a traffic jam on the m25 (what else are you going to do on the m25) with heathrow to my right. all of a sudden heard this loud rumbling and my car just started to shake as concord took off and literally flew over the top of my car.never heard anything so loud in my life but it was a beautiful site.

I grew up at a distance with the bird of beauty. When i was a schoolboy living in Cornwall, I use to hear the booms as she went super sonic heading to the USA and Later on when i was in the RAF based near London, we use to pause our volleyball game to watch her coming into land at Heathrow a few miles away. Even at a distance we could tell it was her. And later while visiting The Tower of London for the day off in the distance i got to see all 3 Concode's coming into land for the last time.

Not how that works particularly. We absolutely could build supersonic airlines again, there just isn’t much point. They aren’t the most commercially viable of aircraft. Airlines are made for fuel efficiency, which is a good idea generally speaking. The Concorde for example was very inefficient below its optimum speed, and due to many countries having a ban on overland supersonic flight, you can see the issues. Also generally speaking regular airliners flying at “only” Mach 0.8-0.9, are cheaper to fly on, operate and are generally more comfortable, and likely more environmental as well. The Concorde was brilliant though, very nice looking aeroplane.

I flew on Concorde on 20th September 1997 with my dear partner from Heathrow. It was a supersonic champagne flight over Atlantic and back to Heathrow. No words can describe the fantastic feeling of that magical flight especially being able to see a BLACK sky over you almost on the edge of the universe and a slight curvature of the earth. Overwhelming. I'll never forget those that experience and no ordinary flight can come close to that feeling. Our Concorde is now resting in Bristol. We have visited it once and wished to repeat those extraordinary moments. We have seen Concorde departure a few times on air shows and a final one from Heathrow on 17th October 2003. I did cry. I will never hear that unique roar and won't see a beautiful shape of that masterpiece fly again. Fantastic era ended. I'm lucky that I was part of it. 😢

A beautiful bird. The only airplane that people would stop and watch. Phil Collins flew to USA on one at Live Aid, it flew over Wembley Stadium to the cheers from that huge crowd. Oddly enough, it was tiny inside by comparison to other contemporary aircraft and window seats were not for those of a large stature! I was fortunate to be given official access to a 'few' Concordes at Heathrow one Sunday morning. Although I never flew in one, I have sat in a pilot's seat! What amazed me most was how much the structure moved around while walking inside it. I wouldn't say it bounced, but it was certainly not like standing on solid ground! Marvelous aircraft, sadly missed by many.

So, I grew up in Caracas and years ago my parents had some friends who live right next door to the international airport in Maiquetia. Next to the fence across the runway. We once went to visit them and I kept hearing all these airplanes flying to land at the airport so I asked for permission to climb the stairs to the house's roof to see this happening. A few minutes after I got there I hear this roar coming from out of nowhere and this little dot in the sky became bigger by the second when I realized it was the Concorde, it flew so close over me I thought I could touch it! An absolutely magical experience.

I love the story of how, when the Concorde first made its first commercial flight in '76, and Elton John was touring, Princess Anne was at one of his shows, and she was asked if she liked it, and she said "yes; it was louder than the Concorde!" So Elton called it the "Louder Than The Concorde" Tour!🤣

Look at the smoke coming from the engines. You can even see smoke when the engines are practically idling on approach to land. The plane was inefficient when it was first built in the 70s. Compared to modern planes it is just not feasible to run it anymore. The plane itself is cramped internally, noisy and only holds a hundred or so people. Then theres the dubious safety record. There may never be another supersonic airliner.

@@richardbrooks50 That sounds about right. From what I read it started rotating at about 200mph and as you can see the time from start of rotation to actually breaking ground was a few seconds. Probably going somewhere around 220+mph when it first gets airborne. The acceleration with those afterburners is very impressive and the acceleration isn't linear meaning the faster it goes the faster the rate of acceleration increases.
