@16:08, you stated that this is for spacing of your longitudinal bars. But this is for minimum clear spacing between ties.

hi - I am talking about spacing between longitudinal bars for that check. the check ensures that the concrete and aggregate can fully flow around each bar. hope this helps!

I have a 24’ x 36’ open air carport project that is on a small hillside…I wanted to build the ground level with cement columns, beams and slab. Then a wood post and beam structure with shingle roof. I wanted to space the columns approx 12’ on center. So 12 total columns. For a class project…need to know the size of foundations, columns, beams and slab thickness with size, amount and spacing of rebar and stirrups. Its would make a good tutorial video for your channel. And I can understand the engineering of such a project! Thx. Joe.

@@Kestava_Engineering Thanks for asking. I got my results and did well on all of the structural afternoon portion but not so well on the breadth (non-structural) sections. I will have to retake it. For those that dont know, in April 2024 the PE Civil structural format will be changing. There are getting rid of the breadth section and the test is going purely structural . There will be a morning vertical section and afternoon lateral section (kind of like the SE). I think I will do much better with the new format. Thanks!

Aci has one of the most horrible codes. For me 318-14 was a step backward from 318-11. It was hard enough to find stuff in -11 and they made it even more confusing. Btw thanks for the video buddy it helped me to understand

No, one is in chapter 25 and the other is in the beam specific section. And they’re really terrible about the nested references “Ensure the provisions of 8.6 apply” go to 8.6, must meet requirements of 26.2, 18.3 blah blah just kill me now

I agree with other comments about the poor format of the ACI code. AISC develops a whole manual to make steel design faster and explain things instead of just the specifications, but even the AISC 360 specs are organized, have clear equations and section organization, and tables with illustrations (e.g. slenderness ratios). NDS does the same and the way the Supplements are laid out, ensures easy navigation (not too much flipping). ACI is a mess, even the new one. You have to flip everywhere and basically derive all the useful design equations. It is a scavenger hunt to try and find things.

Sir, why did you calculate Amax that you used stirrup with 2*0.375, actually, you have only one stirrup right. It should be 0.375 only

The stirrup is on each side of the column, so you got to multiply by two

Hey Kestava Can you do a series on the preliminary design of a building(i.e. placement of columns and preliminary column and beam sizes etc ), prior to do the analysis in STAAD Pro (and how do the iteration if the acceptable deflection is not met is not met in STAAD)????
