Lots of people think broom finish is easiest I believe it harder than a float swirl or sponge sand finish. Timing is everything. You definitely take lots of pride in your work. Your really doing a good job teaching our trade

Hey Mike. I work with gunite Or shotcrete pools. We finish them but not as detailed as you do it. I'm trying to learn how to make patios and sidewalks to start my own little geek and bring some extra cash. Thanks for uploading tutorials as helpful as this, it totally feels and looks like something I can surely do.

Thanks...only doing concrete work once in a while, I have a tough time telling when it’s time to edge, and mag. I also wonder if the sacks of Redi-mix, I use for small jobs, is not as workable as the good stuff you guys get from a truck.
@cheshstyles5 жыл бұрын
The bag stuff bleeds way more in my opinion, because it doesnt mix as long as truck dumped concrete.
@MikeDayConcrete5 жыл бұрын
Probably not quite as good and it does bleed a lot.

I like your videos sir. I understand there's different ways to pour and finish..i like your style..i do have a question though..why did you open it back up with a mag after crazy troweling it before brooming it..i understand freeze thaw cycles and air engrained mud..i like to Fresno or crazy trowel before brooming it..the broom opens it back up and the steel gets it real flat and helps put a nice broom finish on it..i feel laying it down once or twice with steel won't knock the air out of it..i guess what I'm trying to ask is that your standard of procedure (concrete dictating)?
@MikeDayConcrete5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes we only mag it once. If it seems a little wet still, we'll hit it again. Especially if some of it is in the shade.
@taffybryn4 жыл бұрын
yes thats rite ryan fresno will be flat for brooming maging after will weaking the surface for sure

All of your videos are good but this is one of the better ones. I like how you explained where the concrete was along the way as far as curing and what to do at each stage. The funny trowel looks like a steel blade. Is it ok to use steel outdoors if you’re going to broom over the slick finish? I like how the steel trowels smooth out the lines from the mag but I’m worried it will spall if I use a trowel. I always broom outdoor concrete.

How do u put a edge down the middle of a long drive way. T from Ohio 😊
@MikeLtm324 жыл бұрын
Concrete edgers are not common here in Poland, but I am sure that if polish youtubers working with concrete showed how they use them it would catch up. Plus we don't do concrete sidewalks this often, mainly pavers are used for this purpose here. Greetings fom across the ocean. ;)

Is there a specific amount of weight to put on it when magging?
@MikeDayConcrete4 жыл бұрын
It varies depending on how firm the concrete is. Enough weight to work up some paste.
@danwalters51984 жыл бұрын
We use horse hair broom, we would have pushed and pulled the broom and wiped the concrete off every 2nd or 3rd pass.... the shady spot might have made it tricky to broom.
@alexeysamoyluk3565 жыл бұрын
Why do not you cut additionally grooves in the concrete with an electric circular saw? Is it necessary? I have seen many videos on YourTube in which people do this.
@DaDaDo6615 жыл бұрын
You would never cut fresh concrete with a circular saw. Usually they do that when they are removing old concrete
@MrTommy2j5 жыл бұрын
it serves the same purpose as a jointer is more of a preference for looks saw cuts are usually done for indoor slabs but people do them on drives as well and yes you do cut fresh concrete but once it’s finished and hardened a little those cuts are called green cuts and require special blades
