Super video Greg. Great one. What is the difference between the Integrity Pile Test and the Pile Test with the yellow steel bar in it. What happens if the pile fail the Integrity Test. Who orders the concrete for the pile and who checks the quality and specification of the concrete used for the piles. Very good video which is filmed brilliantly as the HD quality is superb. Excellent.
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi Asim! Bearing capacity test check actual pile capacity to check the discrepancy between reality and design - pile is kept under load and movement is checked. Integrity test checks if the pile has any irregularities in the concrete structure (cracks etc).
@mrmalab89373 жыл бұрын
The piling company orders the concrete and they do check the quality of the concrete by taking samples typically cubes. hope I answered the concrete part.

Can you please comment what is the design load for this 75 ft deep auger pile of about 20 in diameter? Is it designed on both skin friction and tip load ? What was the mesured spt (or cpt) at 75 ft depth while geotechnical surveying? Many thanks
@SITENG29 күн бұрын
Not really as I wasn't involved in design and there was a piling contractor. I am nearly sure all these have to be skin friction in this conditions. Can't tell you about the measurements you ask, sorry
@squallconstruction5 ай бұрын
What determines the depth that you drill? is it based on the load bearing or its really the base at which you touch hard rock?
@SITENG5 ай бұрын
this is design and depending on the pile type - some yes, have to reach a good layer, but in most cases this is the friction on the pile surface which is needed to hold the load

how are you checking verticality and position? We are governed by SPERW 3rd edition: Geometric Tolerances: top of steel: -50mm/+150mm position: = +-75mm verticality 1:75 I suggest total station using cogo arc calculation on the hollow core of the auger. I thought these QA would have been priced in, but they are not. I will be running this past my company next week, but I think there are commercial blockages even though we are responsible for adhering to the piling specification. I did not see anyone doing total station surveys on this video. Checking bored piles with casings verticality and position are a lot more straight forward.
@SITENG Жыл бұрын
once it's marked is the rig driver to make sure it goes straight etc. Top of steel is related to the platform level and tolerances you have are enough to go like this although on one job I actually measured the level to tell guys how much to plunge the cage ( that was due to the state of the mat really) Then you do the as built survey on the pile position. The rig creates a pile report about the pile and then the pile integrity test is done on the cut off level and that's about it :)
@CalumKemptonMusic Жыл бұрын
@@SITENG There is a inclinometer on the rig, but it only informs you of the verticality or levelness of the rig. The auger is made of 3 sections and generally can't be taken out of the bore once it starts boring. T he piles are 10-12m deep with a 600mm diameter. Our PPL is 67.000m. The mat is a up and down at places. To be cost efficient, we are using the existing tarmac as the piling platform. There are a couple of softspots that have been dug 630mm below the PPL and backfilled with 6F2. I set up the control network for the job and we are setting all of the cages with a laser level. Our rig has it's own software for measuring certain parameters and the workforce have paperwork they fill in also. As I said we are governed by the ICE SPERW standard which means that the piles should be of a verticality of 1:75 - circa 160mm deviation in the horizontal axis at the toe of the pile. The position is to be within 75mm and the steel is to be -50mm/+150mm.

@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua! They all the same, there are not galvanised as I remember, they only used in some cases, very rarely. The difference you see is the rusty one against 'fresh' ones. Even after few days rebar will start changing colour as the rust starting to get it 😁

Hi, Could you be more specific please in setting out by showing how you use EDM. how you stake points, survey land, as build, programmes you using on total station, mark points on the site by spray, drawing, etc. this will be more useful for those who wants to become Setting out Engineer. Thank you

Hi Rido! You can see EDM in Setting out series, unfortunately it's not easy to record while doing setting out. I was thinking about installing go pro on my hard hat, but it won't work on my site. I will try my best to show this though and in my next videos you will see more 'in action' vids.

hi Greg had a question, I am currently setting out piles and the pins we have is 600MM, it is really hard to get the pins as low as the ones shown in your video. How do you often do it?
@SITENG3 жыл бұрын
Hi Khalid! you need smaller pins, cut yours in 3, 200mm is well enough - and you will save some steel 😉. The pins don't have to be long to keep the position for piles. I was doing piles few times, but last time maybe 3 years ago 😁

Hi Mohamed! You have to try get a job as an assistant/junior engineer first and spend some time on site. In your case it's not going to be long as you have design experience and a degree, so it's only a matter of learning a bit of setting out and see how the work on site is looking.
