As a bricklayer, I can confirm a dry board will dry your mix up. You can uses a board many times, in fact the more times you used it, the better it would work for taking moisture out. That being said, being accurate with measuring water is the most important thing! Great video!

Thank you for watching. Mix consistency is so important as it has a huge affect on the quality of the finished project. Due to environmental factors your really looking for specific Feel/slump in your concrete to decide if it's right. It's a step beyond measuring the right amount of water,

You're one of the few people that I've seen who makes marbled concrete by actually mixing different layers of concrete. Everyone else just seems to sprinkle colorant, or use acid stains...neither of which ever seem to look like marble. I prefer your method. :)

Marbling with your wet mix is a better technique and will give your pieces greater longevity.

Very nice. Great finish look. Try making individual strands (irregular sizes) with your coloured concrete and then spiral or braid them together. (Each method will create a different result.) Then cut them into dissimilar sizes and pack them into your mould. This works great for dry packing as well then add a new colour for void filling.

Honestly? This batch was actually a little bit on the wet side. We're only mixing for an aesthetic look but if we were doing structural work it would be much drier and we would use mechanical vibration to keep it fluid during the pour. The wetter your concrete is the weaker it is, both in surface crustiness but also compressive strength.
@CONCRETECONCRETE

Thank you for replying. Loved your project! Let me just ask this then...does this apply with normal Quickcrete type concrete and portland cement mixes or just to your magical Grey Matter. Went to your web site and bookmarked for future concrete project money spending!
@CONCRETECONCRETE
@CONCRETECONCRETE 5 жыл бұрын
Yes this applies to all concrete. If you were to make two samples cylinders to do a compressive crush test with out of identical mix designs but made one mix super wet, the wet mix would also be the weak mix. For a sack a quikcrete you want to have just enough water for the mix to come together, no dry spots visible. But this mix will have very little flow unless vibrated as it has no plasticizers or water reducers in it.
@CONCRETECONCRETE
@CONCRETECONCRETE 5 жыл бұрын
So one big benefit to Grey matter is that because of the plasticizers and water reducers already in the mix you can get good flow without over saturating water.

Glad you took your time to mix. I'm getting ready to start making pots and was wondering if I wanted a dryer mix or a wet mix.
@CONCRETECONCRETE
@CONCRETECONCRETE 5 жыл бұрын
The wetness of your mix is always a balance act between the detail of the mold and how strong you want a piece to be. Dry mixes are structurally stronger but have lots of voids. Wet mixes can have less voids but tend to separate during vibration so strength of a piece can be variable and also lower. To date our Grey matter mix is the most fluid I've seen a mix while keep water content extremely low (giving higher cure strengths)

Thank you for watching. Mixing and ensuring you have the proper amount of water is SO important. It will affect all aspects of your pour and the mechanical properties of your finished casting. Most home users and even lots of amateur contractor use too much water to increase flow and make their life easier, but your really trading away the future of your casting for a slightly easier time pouring into your forms.

To hit maximum strength we have water reducers and plasticizer built into the mix so that we can mix as dry as possible. Many artist use way too much water in their mixes which results in weak concrete. Using our UHPC we hit a cure strength that is 4X-6X stronger than your average concrete mix. And it cures in a fraction of the time as well.

Hello, hello & hi, Mr. C C Guy, a very very nice video. Pleasant day to you. And, an extremely beautiful planter you made. I woke up this one fine morning & was just flipping thru KZbin for anything interesting & different, & I came across your channel, & I'm so, so glad I did! I absolutely love what you taught me. I hear you talk about the length of videos, etc etc, and I said, "Mmm, I must communicate my thoughts on this to this guy." First thing; as an old school individual, who cares what the length of a video is, if you're going to be learning something?! Gosh man, we all live in a world where ppl are, & will be critical, (always), just for the sake of being critical! Simply ignore the naysayers! Professional ones, laymen ones, male, female, kids, teens, & whatever other grouping that ppl can be put into! If a video is made, & it's interesting enough to watch, why?, because it's teaching you how to do a certain subject, then ppl will watch the whole darn thing from start to finish & start it back again!!! I oftentimes tell ppl this! I do all kinds of creative designing. Clothing, art & crafts, house plans, interior decorating, and my list goes on & on. And, you wanna know what's the best part of all that is, I ENJOY IT! And I still find time to do nothing if I want. Go shopping, visiting family & friends from time to time, cooking, watch lots & lots of videos. And, oh yes, as a woman, this one likes to clean her space, so I clean my home & take care of all the other day to day chores that need to be done. So, my dear young fellow, pucker up, & do what you are gifted to do best. It has all to do with time management & contentment of mind. Not if you are rich or poor, nor from what part of the world you live. That matters not at all! As for me, I'll always be learning something! Bless up. Oh, by-the-way, do some pots in varying shades of blue & white, plz. And can clear glaze be put on the pot after it's dried & sanded?

Hi Gloria, Thank you! I will say there are times when you do need to do things by the books (ie: architectural or structural work) We do also supply professionals that need repeatability and reliability with their materials. There's room for both types of craftsman/artists in the world!

Haters are gonna hate...don't worry about those people. It's so easy to scroll on by if you don't like something, it's just a case of misery loves company...haha I love that you filmed the mixing part. I use a ring light with a clip for my phone , on a tripod. It's super easy and gives good lighting. Your video is just fine btw ❤

Those of us in the candle making world that make our own concrete vessels use cement all & pour it in the mold. 3 hours later, it’s done. Easy peasy. I might be interested in some of your pigments though 🤔 I can marble in a thinner substrate.
@CONCRETECONCRETE
@CONCRETECONCRETE Жыл бұрын
Yes but our grey matter will outlive all of the cement all :D Our Grey Matter has no large aggregate filler, so you're getting a lot more cementous material per bag. PLUS Grey Matter is 3X stronger than general purpose mix! We love our mix. New sample pigment kit came out last month, if ya wanted to try Best to ya
