I think it's great that you left the mismeasurement or mismix or mishap in the beginning. If you would have edited it out or started over, and I do it and it's too wet, at least I can see that it's nothing I did wrong and will know that it does happen to others. Most importantly, I'll know how to fix it! I think that businesses that put out perfect videos do their customers/students an injustice... "I did it just like he did and it didn't come out right. Mine's too wet! What did I do wrong??? I must be an idiot!!!". I can really respect and appreciate you and Concrete Concrete for that. If I ever have a need to make dinner plate-sized concrete that looks like colorful marble, I will be sure to buy from you and Concrete Concrete. As for now, I'm staining a concrete floor and looking for ideas/instructions on how to make the concrete floor look like marble... Unfortunately, I've been using a semi transparent water based product from Sherwin Williams called Infusion. The homeowner couldn't find the colors he wanted and bought a solid color acrylic stain from Lowe's. It is so thick!!! The infusion is water based and can be applied with a pump sprayer. This acrylic stuff has to be rolled on! How do I make that look like marble??? LOL

I am interested in making a marble effect concrete. The first step is to design the concrete mix unlike the way its done in the video. The concrete in this video features a super plasticizer (Melflux 2651 possibly?) which allows for a reduced amount of water and it binds to the cement particles to lubricate them and make the mix behave like this. The concrete mix needs to be designed with or without a plasticizer depending on budget and it should have various sized aggregate. This mix is mainly paste which is why its very smooth indeed. So, research your mix and have fun!
@CONCRETECONCRETE
@CONCRETECONCRETE 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Nos. Quite a long winded post for someone who doesn't know what their talking about. We don't use Melflux 2651 in our mix, but you sure sounded technical! And we do have 2 sizes of aggregate in this mix, so your wrong again. Do you have any other pearls of wisdom to share?
@nosferatu8789
@nosferatu8789 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I didn't say you that did use Melflux 2651, I only said possibly? and secondly, I didn't say that you didn't have any aggregate in your mix, I said it was mainly paste which it is because there are no visible signs of aggregate above 2mm in size otherwise we would see them in your mix when you let go of it and it self smooths. I am not criticizing your mix or method, merely making observations. But you are using a super plasticizer of some sort because concrete only behaves like that in your video when it has a Polycarboxlic Ether super plasticizer added to it. Free advice 1, Calculate how much water you need (Water Cement Ratio) to add and calculate how much super plasticizer you need before you start the mix. It will save you time, wasted materials, money and of course make a stronger mix. Free advice 2, Test the moisture content of your aggregate too, it has an impact on the mix and the resulting strength. Free advice 3, when adding pigments, be aware they are very dry and can affect the mix! Free advice 4, I know more about concrete than you do! My proof is in my comments and your lack of knowledge is shown in your video! Have a nice day and be more polite in future and not so rude.

@@CONCRETECONCRETE thanks for replying. I used to make concrete products including paving. I used to find dotting about some v wet oxide into the normal mix then vibrating gave a really natural look. I know what your saying about hobbyist doing small projects at home though. Tell you what I tried on a small job. I got an old electric sander I had, put it in a vice reversed and used it as a mini vibrating table. It worked pretty well and no heavy equipment involved. Give it a go, Thanks

Thank you for watching! Strong concrete will make everything better from start to finish. It's tough to advise on your curing and post process. I went through a year long project to develop a concrete mix specifically catering to my needs an an artist. Off the shelf concrete sucks and trying to making your own mix is kind of useless unless you're willing to pay a firm to test are your mechanical properties after you finish so that you're actually making data driven decisions.
