Morning sir, Not sure which I really like best. Exposed or rolled slate with the slate Grey. Have you ever done an exposed rolled slate finish?? Is that even conceivable?? That would have to look pretty neat----yes or no. That drive looked really nice the way your guys put things back. Little water, a couple of mowings and waller, good as gold. Truly a 1st class job😁😁

Around here the driveway approachs don't get the crack you describe because instead of a flat edge they always have a raised curb. The curved curb starts at the sidewalk allowance as zero height and joins into the street curb. There's also a pan of about a foot width in the street. Typical curb and gutter. Also all work from the street through the upper line of the sidewalk allowance is considered to be in the right of way and requires a permit, inspection just prior to pouring, and company/year stamps and can only be done with a license.

Would love to hear more explanation as to why you think certain concrete fails. It looks like on the driveway the area that failed did have the rebar pulled up into it. Was it improper compaction?
@mikebarushok5361
@mikebarushok5361 2 ай бұрын
It's often hard to tell. Sometimes the clues are things like tree roots following where water got under the slab. Sometimes the slabs separate from each other where there's a cold joint or a joint with expansion material that deteriorated and once water gets underneath it undermines the sub base. Sometimes there was a trapped area with one or more downspouts surrounded by driveway, sidewalk and house and the roof runoff had to go somewhere.
@scottrabinow2773
@scottrabinow2773 2 ай бұрын
@@mikebarushok5361 Could also be a few more... improper (or even no) soil compaction originally could have left the slab unsupported as the soil consolidated naturally, weak area in the soil subgrade (the "dirt" doesn't have perfectly uniform strength), poor quality base and/or preparation, in this case maybe even due to the rounded rather than crushed stone... Could be slightly thinner pour in spots, an unusually heavy load at some point in the past damaging the concrete and started it on the path of deterioration, freeze thaw cycles when it was fresh, etc...
@mikebarushok5361
@mikebarushok5361 2 ай бұрын
@@scottrabinow2773 Those are also possibilities. Some causes are difficult or impossible to see ten years later. Finding particular sand/gravel/stone under a failed slab might indicate water caused migration of sub grade or might be poorly done preparation. I've seen (intact!) sidewalk slabs where salt has completely deteriorated the bottom to a vee cross section and the aggregate that is in place looks just like excessive sand placed to form a valley down the center. Perfectly fine surface without visible cracks. Tore out and replaced because customer wanted sidewalk to match color of new steps.

was this an old pour you did? driveways should be 6" thick with rebar and or heavy wire mesh throughout with 4500 psi concrete . unless you want to redo them every 5 -10 years. if you have been doing them like this your entire career go back and show a drive you did 10 years ago and prove me wrong
