Probably, they were referring to certain flavors (example: whole wheat pasta is not liked by everyone) or maybe they are born in Italy but have foreign origins, so they are not used to it. It’s mainly due to a few things on stereotypes have some bases in truth for instance I’m part Irish and as anyone knows the Irish are know for eating Potatoes and drinking a lot and while it’s a stereotype its sort of true due to English oppression for centuries Ireland and by extension the Irish were forced to farm for England and barely got by with what they could afford when potatoes were brought to Europe they found out Ireland was perfect for them and it became a cheap way for the Irish to eat food then the Potato Blight happened, while the drinking part is just something that all three Gaelic cultures get grouped into. Second it’s more based in lies or derogatory things for instance a common insult that anyone could say to a Welshmen is that they shag sheep it was insult started by the English (oh what a surprise.) and as the years went on it became a stereotype just by misconception. Then there’s the third one which is old traditions for instance they idea that the Scottish all wear kilts will it was true for most people Hundreds of years ago now a days it’s more of a sign of respect to their ancestral culture and are only worn for special occasions. Heck even the army is thought to still wear kilts into battle which was technically true, but they haven’t done that in over a century as I guess it wasn’t a good idea to wear a kilt in the trenches of the Great War with gas around.
