I did have a bit of condensation in mine, but I simply opened the opaque covers until the the moisture had gone (warm days) and refitted them. However, I will possiblbly fit the silica gel if the problem returns. Good video as always and I look forward to your vids of this and the T4. You have taught me so much. A few months ago I got got caught out when trying to refill with fuel, (XK8) and the switch in the cabin didn't release the petrol cap, thankfully I had watched your video on the manual release hidden in the boot, and knew exactly what to do. Thanks a million! If you are in S. Wales againI would love to meet up in either the XK8 (Alfie) or the T4 motorhome (Merlin) and talk randomly over an ale or two.

HI John, Do you know about the technical service bulletin on this topic (TSB 417-05)? I implemented the "fix" (installing "T-piece" vent pipes, part # LJE 4133AA) several years ago and it completely eliminated all condensation problems. I was also able to do so without removing the headlights, using a cordless Dremel tool with 9mm bit to drill the holes in the stub pipes. (It left a very small amount of plastic shavings inside the lens housing, which I'm happy to live with if it means not having to remove the headlight.) Very important: the key to making the vent pipes work is to attach the curved part of the T-piece to the stub pipe opening so that it curves downward, while ensuring that the long, straight pipe is positioned parallel to the ground and is not pinched. As the car is driven, air passes through this pipe, creating a vacuum which sucks moisture out of the headlight. Another headlight-related tip: I highly recommend purchasing and installing on the headlights and fog lights one of the 3M headlight protection film kits. They are custom-cut to fit your model and year, are easy to install, and cost less than $20 US -- much cheaper than replacing a shattered headlight. Here's one supplier in the US: clearmask.com/catalog/product/view/id/36389/s/lightgard-14-mil-thick-x-24-inch-wide-per-running-foot/

Ray Reinhard 👋 hi Yes a good point that’s I should have referenced in this video really. We have that bulletin in the documents area of the website., I did explain it in the original headlight saga videos a year ago but decided to optimise the original set up to show the original intent of the designers. The headlamp protection film is very interesting though. And something I have not yet tried🤔 Thanks for all this great intel Ray👍

Hello John, Helpful and interesting as usual. It does worry me that the bonnet did not appear to be propped. A gust of wind could blow it down and damage the bonnet on the laid down struts or hurt you. You don’t want a visit from Health & Safety :-) or CTJ (cruelty to Jaguars)

Hi John. Fascinating series of secrets. I’ve just bought my new final edition 2005 coupe. First thing I noticed was the condensation in the headlights. It’s amazing that Jaguar never improved this issue over the years and it was still a problem at the end of production. I’m going to try your solution. Do you have any ideas for preventing rot inside the rear wheel arch? I think water and crud comes through the plastic vents and builds up. Cheers Gary

I went to your web site but could not find your list of the various repairs. Please tell where in your site to check.

John, I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find how to properly adjust the idle on my 1999 XK8. I’m at about 550 RPM in gear and end up with a lean code on both banks when warmed up and come to a stop. If I drive two footed and keep the RPMs up I never get a fault! I didn’t want to touch the Throttle Positioning Sensor and adjusting the throttle cable moves my neutral idle too high. I did clean the MAF Sensor......any advice! Your videos have been VERY helpful!!!

I’ve been trying to order a right side light lens non power wash.... I guess the previous headlight video was popular as the lens is only available on back order with no idea of delivery date 😢

I haven't stripped my headlamps down but I put car dehumidifiers in them from the local supermarket. 5 years on still no condensation

I have just filmed how to get the ECU out Matt. So will be doing your repair as a little video quite soon👍

I tried it and it didn't work so went back to the option I used on my first XK8. I drilled two 10mm holes in the clear lid, bingo condensation is gone. Don't worry, you really would have to do something stupid to get water up into that space.

Can you make the video any longer. Very boring to listen too.
