In the main clause of the 2nd conditional we have modal( would/might /could) + short infinitive of the main verb (not present simple): If you invited her to the party, she would come (which is infinitive, not "comes"- present simple for 3rd person singular). But all in all, beautiful presentation. 😊

It was a nice video, but you didn't really distinguish among the differences between both Second Conditional and Third Conditional. And that is why I still sit in front of my homework, trying to realize when should I use Second Conditional and when should I use the Third Conditional.
@sagsagi3
@sagsagi3 8 жыл бұрын
You gave me the clearest explanation about this subject. Yet, the rules related to conditional sentences are completely different in my own native language, and that is why I find Third Conditional very hard to use, especially while talking.
@entrada8930
@entrada8930 6 жыл бұрын
But one English example is not correct. CORRECT: "If I had studied English earlier, I would speak it better now." And while the second example is technically correct, it is awkward because it sounds like you have spent all the money and are no longer a billionaire. BETTER: "If I had played the lottery, I would be a billionaire."

Excellent video.In English we use the simple past for the if clause as Jon said but for those who speak Spanish they have to translate using the subjuntive for example: if I had ... si yo tuviera, if I won ... si you ganara... The third conditional uses the past perfect for the if clause for example if I had studied ... I would have passed ...Si hubiera estudiado ... habria pasado... Keep on doing videos like these, Jon.You are helping a lot of English learners.

I am curious about 2nd conditional and the inversion issue. As for sentences like this: "If you were my son, I would bla bla bla" the inversion is "Were you my son, I would bla bla bla'' but for sentences like this: 'If you changed your name, I would not find you" the inversion will be: "Were you to change your name, I would not find you" ??? Is that correct ??? and second question: Is this sentence correct at all: "If you were to change your name. I would not find you" ???

You might also say it like this: "If I had been born in a country where people spoke English, I wouldn't have needed this video. But I was born in Italy, so I need it." / you can replace the phrase "a country where people spoke English" with "an English-speaking country", because this way sounds better. You can also change the position of the "IF CLAUSE" in the sentence: "I wouldn't have needed this video if I had been born in an English-speaking country." I hope that helps you out with your doubts.
