Hi, Lucy! For second conditional, when using the verb “to be,” the correct way is to always use “were.” It’s not optional to use “was,” grammatically speaking, even though many actors speak this way on TV. I’m American, but this rule applies to all Englishes. I only bring this up because I have to give Cambridge online exams which only give multiple choice options, and “was” is not a correct option. Ex: “If I WERE taller, I’d wear high heels.” Love your videos!

My ESL students in California have wanted to know about the difference between "If I was" and "If I were" and I decided that if a Brit says they're both okay, then I can tell the students the same!
