1075 is a nice blend of hardness & durability, while being fairly easy to sharpen. It's an _ideal_ steel for anyone who wants to use the tool a lot, and intends to take care of it by cleaning & oiling it (oil the leather sheath too, inside & out). There's a couple other steels which are _slightly_ better, but cost a lot higher than slightly more. 1075 is ideal for something you want to take out & _use_ The spring temper is as important as the material though. But from what I have seen, Condor and imacasa (their budget brand) are well tempered & tightly put together. Imacasa is much cheaper, but only beveled (not sharpened), cheap handles, cheap sheath, sometimes cosmetic blemishes. I think condor is worth the extra cost.

I've found that wire wrap to be useful, it lets me know without looking that my hand is slipping up, if I feel the wire I know I've got to reposition my hand. It's not some huge benefit or anything but it is helpful. I've got the big Duku parang and use it to clear trails on my property.

Well said sir! I like what you have to say about steel-snobbery. There seems to be this religion these days that if aint some high-end steel, it MUST be bad. Its worth remembering that any knife that is well made, using an average steel, made and heat treated by modern metallurgical standards, is probably more reliable than most of the knives and bayonets used from the post war period back through history. People have been surviving for millennia without powdered sintered steels, yet all of a sudden everyone is all "if it isn't 30V its rubbish". Nonsense. Besides, camp knives, throwing knives, machetes, scalpels and marine knives SHOULD ALL be made from different steels because they face different mechanical and chemical challenges. AND people should remember that a badly made expensive knife, is worse than an incredibly well made cheaper knife.... thats a lesson I learned the hard way. Great video. Im buying one ... .maybe two.

No reviews on this ,not even forms...wonder why. Expensive for 1075 with a low tech heat treat. LOVE the design, wonder if its just bad ONE guy said "Condor steel has zero rentention, soft as rubber " ANYone here have one? ANY feedback? Like this better or Camp 10/ BK 21?

Hi Chris, I appreciate your reviews and feedback on bladed prodcucts. Your review of the Condor Amalgam convinced me to purchased this product. I did modifications on the handle; I rounded the handle edges for a more comfortalbe grip. I also had to reset the brass pins. The main issue was the backhand pinky area which was so square it did indeed cause blisters. Still an awesome chopper.

This review was very convincing and I now have a Condor Amalgam in my hand. It came with some lines in the finished portion of the blade having a slight squiggle and showing on both sides. Is this a problem? Going out to check performance in my hand now.

G'day Chris, "Let the tool do the work." (pause; place knife on log, long pause...)! LMFTO !!! And, you're going out on a limb; in the jungle! (rim shot) If anyone ever says you don't have a sense of humor they need a proof of life test. Just checled with my local Aussie knife supplier; this retails at around USD$102.00. A lot of money for a machete but well worth the $$! Thanks Chris, Cheers, BH

A couple of observations, yes one might query as to why you, or others just don't grab the brush hog or Stihl brush clearer and make short work of it...well, I can't tell you how many times I've come across all that new growth that started to crowd back in the "back 40" and wish I had my crapola CT machete (that's why I'm here looking for better) because I was too lazy to go all the way back to the garage to get a machine. Always starts with "oh I just need to get rid of this one...and this one..and thi...like picking scabs lol. So ya, If I have a GOOD machete, I'll reach for that instead. Secondly, I have done loads of clearing with ol' crapola and a small chainsaw out at my other heavily forested property, and quickly noticed I had a severe pungie-stick issue going on. No so much for humans who hopefully wear proper footwear in the bush, but dogs and kids. I have labs, and they run...and I mean run EVERYwhere fast..with huge paws, and had an incident with one of them that saw me racing to the vets..30 miles away...on a Sunday $$$$ ...so, keep that in mind. Thanks for the review :-)

On the wire wrap , it looks like they pre-twisted the wire , wrapped it round , tucked the whole wrap under the previous 2-4 wraps in the underside of the knife then pressed it square in a vise or jig , hiding the finished ends.
