Interestingly everyones time clock is different . Without a conductor things wouldn't sync up very well . Some people rush , some people drag . The orchestra watches the conductor to ensure they're in synch . Every room is different as well . the conductor hears the orchestra as a whole out front and can make different sections play louder or softer to suit the room . It takes a little pressure off of a musician when they have long gaps in their part . the conductor will cue them just before their part comes up . there are lots of other reasons . He or She can hear and see if anyone isn't doing their part well so he can go over it with them later . Without a conductor one violinist may blame the other for playing sharp or flat and a rumble breaks out on stage .you wouldn't want that to happen would you coach ? wait a minute , maybe you would ...BZ
@xYohmx4 жыл бұрын
Exactly... if there's no conductor every one can interpret (sometimes very approximate) interperetation. There's case in contemporary music (and i'm not even speaking of serial music) where indications are something like "play this notes like a you're dreaming about a strawberry" (watch Erik Satie's scores...) But a conductor imposes his vision of what he thinks the writer's intention are (or were? Sorry i'm french my english is approximative).

That makes a lot of sense my question in the comment above seams like what I was trying to get at. Because if you're trying to play based on the notes when playing in an orchestra. You're close to everyone else when they are playing so it's harder for you to follow which tune you should follow so the conductor organizes the pitch for everyone. So then everyone(or groups) is timed differently to change tone. So they don't overlap certain sounds. That's why the conductor is at the very center at a certain distance to stimulate what people would hear when sitting in the theater.
@2204JCM3 жыл бұрын
Actually most of the work the conductor does is BEFORE THE ACTUAL PERFORMANCE in the rehearsals. Then once they do the gig everyone knows 99.9% of what to do minus the actual timing cues such as when a Formatta comes.

It's this simple, Pat. A conductor is needed because humans are imperfect. It doesn't matter if you, Rose, & Mister Blazed practice a song ten thousand times each with the purpose of performing it together on a given night. It doesn't change that you're imperfect, so despite the fact that you've all practiced so much, it's still possible for one or more of you to mess up for whatever reason (nerves, lapse of judgment, faulty equipment, etc.) Therefore, a conductor is needed to keep everyone as perfect as humanly possible during their performance. Much like an experienced, reliable corner is needed to guide their fighter back onto a trained gameplay in the event that they stray in the middle of a chaotic contest. Humans are imperfect. That's why a conductor is needed. Boom.

Just wanted say thank you. I thank you for being such an inspiration. Your humanity and the way your heart shines so bright despite how ugly the sport you compete in can be. It truly is an art form. My wife just gave birth to our 4th child, a beautiful healthy baby girl. We named her Maya Rose Crain. ❤ She was partly named after two very strong women in this world that are both a testament to the power and beauty of the soul. The first woman who we named our gorgeous baby girl after is Maya Angelou, singer author political activist. The second was after my favorite fighter in the ufc and one of my favorite people on the planet, Rose Namajunas. My daughter will grow up knowing where her names came from and will be able to identify with and relate to the outstanding character of both these individuals. I am confident when she researches either of you that she will see and understand her own strength. For that Rose I thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart. Ps my favorite is the documentary by mixed Molly whopper. Its not about the belt, its about the journey. I've watched about 10 times. Pat Barry is the man and you two are my favorite couple. I love how Pat is also a champion wether or not he got a belt he is still a champion to me. Especially in spirit I commend you deeply on your strength to straighten your life up for the ones you hold dearest. I did the same thing for my lady and wonderful family. So pat Barry I thank you as well. Much love from our family to yours.....❤💪 🌞

Pat's question is legit, and Rose and their friend made some real points. Somehow it sounds like a Tarantino conversation too, and it's fun. To me the volume at which they are playing can change any time, bc it's not written down in the tab. Then them guys have to have the beat. And the conductor masters the beat bc they have no drums like in a rock band or a click, yo. Finally the only guy who knows all the parts is the conductor. It's like in a band : the Bass guy doesn't know the guitar parts even thought he knows the drums and some guitar parts, he doesn't know the entire song. No one does. But in an Orchestra there can be over 100 musicians together, so it makes sense to have one to set it up. Yet them guys could prolly also play without one if they had the beat and lots of habits to play together . It's like a manager : do we need one ? Only if he is trully skilled and makes it better than without him, yo. That's d my last word on it

At 10:30, when the clock starts ticking, Rose hits upon the crux of the matter, and she makes lucid the role of a conductor by comparing him or her to a fight coach, whose main function is served before the day of the fight, but whose presence is nonetheless valuable to the performance (i.e. to provide pupils with the expected cues). Brilliant 🌞

🤔💭....3...2..1..🤯...🤣😂🤣😂 That was some funny asz sh!+ Pat is correct in that, if everyone practices , then on concert night everyone isn't going to start playing different variations of the song. as a person who used to be in an orchestra (in high school lol), I can say that they are very necessary. it helps for finding out when songs crescendos and stuff. without one, the orchestra would essentially have to remember everyone's part; which is basically impossible. they're pretty important.

This is so cool to see... Two of my top 10 fighters (Pat a fn beast) (Rose a fn savage) being free af in their own time and no filters. I feel what Pat is saying 100%. I think that a conductor is just ....well...just a conductor. A reference point. When something musical involves numerous people (producers or musicians) a conductor becomes a gauge of time and expression. Everyone plays the song as it is specified...and a conductor allows for emphasis on control or dynamic harmony. Honestly IDK. But this makes me want to research why a conductor is needed. lol Thank u guys!!

the conductor hears the whole orchestra as the audience hears it so he balances the sounds. ;) ❤️
@tameresin82414 жыл бұрын
It's also that the conductor hears ALL balance(or mix if you will), all the frequency response of the performance of the orchestra. So they are also responsible for such nuances in the overall freq spectrum, based on their interpretation and the character of the acoustic space/architecture, for instance. They are responsible of delivering the sound to the audience in a way that a mixdown engineer and mastering engineer would in a record, so to say. Because there is simply no way that the musicians could hear what the overall sounds like for the audience, due to their physical positions. Nice conversation :)

Yes Pat, at the time of the big recital the conductor would be just as well flopping his hog out and helicoptering it than wagging his baton around but this is the culmination of his work assembling and directing a ragtag group of musicians into a precise glorious orchestra.
@KyleandPrieteni3 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but the RTC whatever that's called that's on the musical notes, is that Like a notice to let you know to look at the conductor?(follow his highs and lows when he wants certain people to change pitch) and base it off of him on those set of notes that have that cue to look at the conductor? Like certain people have different times to look at the conductor on what to change from highs to lows so other people who have a different symbol or don't have it they keep whatever pitch they are supposed to play on the music sheet. I'm trying to grasp all this haha.

certain instruments in an orchestra have long rests and typically when a section is jumping into a song at the same time they synchronize with the conductor's cue to lock in. also for accents in the music like he said with the crescendo. if, for example, a violinist needs to pluck a certain part the conductor can signal that he wants the player to pluck more aggressively.

And then there is the projection of the music in the room. The conductor hears what everything together sounds like... So he or she orchestrates the music. One musician doing their job, can't hear it by themselves... And then even way more... So, Rose, you still think too solistic to really get this, but then you ain't a conductor ;-). Conductor is like a dj. They add their "spin" to the piece
@leetroutner38664 жыл бұрын
Not Historically. They typically maintain the integrity of the original composure. But, Yes.... They can add their own spin on a piece. Any great Composer would definitely say that before they made it available to any public Venue... Digital or otherwise. My thoughts.
@Richard.Dawson4 жыл бұрын
20 minutes to say this... The conductor is there to synchronize the group. To start them at the same time, to stop them at the same time, to keep them on the same pace/speed and to keep them at the proper volumes. You can play as a group without a conductor but to play a piece of music technically perfect requires someone to lead the musicians in the things I mentioned above.

It's not possible to write every nuance of a musical piece, it needs to be interpreted. That's the conductor's job, and to make sure everyone is in time with everyone else. How boring would it be if every time a piece of music was performed it was played "exactly" as every other time that piece was played. The notes are the same, but the interpretation makes it unique.
@leetroutner38664 жыл бұрын
Agreed! It's meant to be played "exactly" as written. That is the Conductors job. They maintain Musical history... Takes a special person to even want to do the job. :)
