As an old Miami Dolphins' fan this scene about the coach never having heard of SNL cone heads reminds of a story about Coach Shula...the promotional people brought Don Johnson from Miami Vice to a dolphins practice and they introduced him to Shula as from Miami Vice. Coach Shula had never even seen the show and thought he was from MPD Vice, saying "You guys do a great job"....it is called singular focus!

That's cause the movie came out in 1993 not 1980 dumbass!!!!!

@@scottsullivan7129 Scott I’m guessing that you are a dumass millennial. Yes, the crappy movie came out in 1993, but the SNL Coneheads that Miracle refers to is the popular recurring SNL skit that debuted in 1977, 3 years before the 1980 Olympics.

The Miracle on Ice happened in 1980. Coneheads came out in 1993. Makes sense it would be off Herb's radar.

Mark Johnson though was a goal machine

Johnson was actually more a playmaker but did score two huge goals against the USSR.

why do they reference cone heads, this movie is about the 80s right?
@1981lashlarue3 жыл бұрын
The Olympic games were in 1980-- early 1980. Most of the movie takes places in 1979. Technically, the decade of the '80s didn't officially start until 1981. Plus, the Coneheads were on SNL in the late '70s and the '80s.

Because this was *late 70's* genius! Lake Placid Olympic Games were February 1980 - at the *very beginning* of the 80's!
