The first thing coming to mind before even opening the video was that it makes perfect sense to have the entrance in the back and NOT on the sides. It's still perfectly aerodynamic and ALOT easier to get into. Fabulous job, Sir.

It's a 4x8feet camper , and it's aluminum frame with coroplast as the cab on a 3/⁴inch PVC pipe frame. Will be winterized with fanfold insulation. (Much like your nomad) and thanks for the idea of the food dehydrator. I'm gonna stick a solar panel for some of those led Christmas light ropes. Ammo can woodstove on the inside. I was originally gonna use the 10mm twin wall polycarbonate (clear stuff) but I could only find the 4mm stuff. Still should work out nicely though. I will be living and travelling in this, keep the bicycle camper video's coming paul!!! I'd like to see another burning man style except winterized with a wood stove.

Love the design. I am currently working on a 7'x3'x3' bike camper myself. I opted for 2x4s, the base is the whole 2x4s and the cabin frame I split the 2x4s down the middle to make it more lightweight (couldn't find any 2x2s). I designed mine off the capsule rooms you see in parts of Asia (Japan is famous for them). the nose is a separate area and will have a clamshell hatch that acts as both a canopy and gives me access to stowage, a shelf and all that. Acts like a little galley. You were actually inspiration for me to do it. I spent years living depressed and anxious while just existing in the background of other people's lives and decided I needed to do something. So I decided I will be going on the road, documenting it and improving the design as I go. Thanks for the wonderful videos!

Vote for Paul as master maker of the year! I would recommend 5-minute epoxy for attaching the bamboo into the floor holes, it will outlast the wood itself and not weaken the bamboo by splitting it. Love the little stove, quite ingenuous. If you epoxy a little sheet of steel onto the back of the little drawers and a disk magnet onto the drawer holder, it will prevent opening while traveling. Personally, I would have used plastic coated wire to tie the bamboo pieces together as they can be twisted tighter (carefully) while making sure the ends are curled to prevent scratches. Another fantastic job, Paul!

There are motors that fit into the bike wheel and are also generators that can charge a battery when you are peddling or coasting and use the stored power to assist you on hill climbs. I love the dollar tree for getting cheap items to use and most of them are of good quality. But hey, you did good! It inspires me with a few ideas.

PEX as a replacement for bamboo is not very environmentally friendly (should this be a concern for you). It cannot be recycled.

I saw a fella years ago (while I was fishing) living on a river bank who had bent saplings over top of each other and zip tied them together forming something similar to what you have. He had used a thin sheet of clear plastic over the whole structure and was pretty much living in it. Honestly for what he had invested it turned out fairly nice. It got me to thinking and wondering how so many folks can end up with no sort of shelter with so many different ways to make a simple thatched hut as such that would be livable. He told me he'd been living there for about a year and a half at that time and hadn't been made to leave as he wasn't a bother to anyone. Really cool guy with alot of great ideas like that one

Always love your designs! I actually used the idea of a drop floor design when building a mobile sauna/car camper for a friend who is 6’ 7” tall. The floor has two long doors that open up, behind the axle, giving him full standing height head room to shower inside and change clothes and prep food without having to make the camper too tall for road driving. Worked great! So I always credit you in that design implementation. Many thanks! It was a blast to make and super satisfying design that I’ve never seen anywhere else in a camper. It’s such a handy way to add versatility. I’m not quite sure why it’s not used more commercially. Thanks for the inspiration over the years. It’s always fun to see fellow makers solve 3d problems in unique and creative ways.

I made one like this a couple years ago except I used 3 layers a tarp and plastic wrap, and mylar on the inside. Had a pretty bad condensation problem tho. I'm now making a coroplast one with pvc pipe and zip ties. All thanks to your ideas Paul. Very nice work

While bicycle touring I have thought a lot about a trailer/camper. My idea was a foldable one. But at the end I decided it was easier to buy a new tent, smaller and lighter than the one I had before. I still need to walk and push the bicycle when going up a steep hill (but that's probably because I'm an old woman).

@@paulwelkinsdiy also put the stove as low as possible. If for instance it was screwed to the floor it could not only have more flue exposed to radiate heat it could also have an air hole entrance in the base to use in combustion. Have you thought about waterproofing the fabric?

I love your canopy idea, gives me an idea on how to make a cheap canopy for my homeless funky wagon. Made from an old door (for the floor) and a couple of (whatever) wheels available, like from an old mower or golf buggy. As long as you can move it. And it would have a "mattress" over the door-floor (made from anything paddy). And make the canopy like your bike camper canopy with bamboo and old sheets or even garden plastic. It's just a concept for anyone who could have a cheap (portable) abode when they are homeless. It's the portability that's the secret (I reckon). If I made one of those it would be purely a experimental thing, different to other more professional campers I have (like my van). And I also plan to have other campers (like my funky boat and demountable tipi ideas).

But at 77yrs itbis Very hot not having a covering so I don't get sick from being in the sun so long. I live in the high desert of So. Cal just out side of Palmdale. I think it might work if I cut some long branches of the Maskit, don't know the spelling. Then tie them over head. Then cover them with canvas. I have the canvas. I was surprised to see you had something Similar! Yours is more elaborate!

What a practical, novel idea. And fascinating in concept. A tractor out of an old lawnmower. Must be one of those big acreage sort of lawnmowers. All you need for shade is an umbrella. ...a square one. You can buy them, I've seen but I'm sure there must be a few floating about on dumps or unused in someone's garage.

No? Not a big lawn mower. I just had someone remove the blade and guard that covers the blade. I got the idea from a true story movie called The Straight Story. It is about a man who had Not spoken to his brother for 10 yrs He received a phone call one night saying his brother had a bad stroke. It made him think, he could of lost his brother. He decided he had to go make up with him but how. His eyes were Bad so he lost his license. His hips were bad he was 73yrs. So he got out his riding lawnmower & made a trailer to sleep in at night and drove from Larens to Mt. Soni, sorry can't remember The spelling. They made up. But the travel there was interesting.

Great video! Another 2 years of Covid and half the US population will be living in these. Instead of zipties you might try strips cut from soda bottles, which shrink when you heat them with a heatgun or a match (carefully). That way you could tighten them with a little heat as needed.

lndeed! I tried using pop bottle sting on my test shelter, then didn't like the 'plastic' aspect so used Jute. After massive blisters tying the sticks together I opted for the zip ties on the camper. Someone suggested the plastic coated gardeners wire. These can be re-adjusted after the bamboo shrinks. Still some plastic involved but I like that idea best.

Many years ago in my college, small business development class I made up a business plan about a livable bicycle trailer. Did well on the class but I could not pedal the trailer very far. It was heavy and I was trying to ride too far, too unsteady on the road. I could not keep my stuff contained and safe. I took it apart and gave up after awhile. I like the bamboo frame and the canvas and the stove. Its cool!
