I went to prison when my baby was 1 1/2 years old. When I got out she was turning 3. MY baby momma had found another man, but every night locked up I listened to all of the other guys beat their chest and say how they dont care bout nothing, I would cry myself to sleep. Praying when I could hold my baby girl again. The day I got out I went to my baby mommas house and walked in, dropped to my knees and held my arms out. I didnt know how my daughter would react not seeing me in so long. She came up to me. That day I made a promise to myself that I would never take the wrong path again. And I havent. I dont ever want to feel that low again. Being taken away from your children against your will is the lowest you can get.

My son told me I wasn't funny. Lol. They then told me they would be at the Oregon Jamboree that summer. So the second time I saw them they asked me if my son had been able to make it to the Oregon Jamboree. I was impressed~! I memorized the song but can't sing. I just loved that mixed metaphor about a soul rolling on a track.

The last 20 seconds of this song are so haunting, the way the music sounds there.

Love this song, even though its a sad one. I've taken the wrong paths of life a few different times. I moved out at 23, thinking I could live a better life and not being around my parents fighting all the time. Here I sit writing this, and this song hits home. I still go back up to visit, but it hurts me every time I leave because they are all in tears. Now, I am feeling homesick and just wanting to come home.

What a profound song! These Ole boys seem to be relating my past life. Now I'm working diligently,especially on myself to never be the A-hole I was. That person's dead.

The man in the prison suit running towards his son only to never get to him is very moving imagery.
@HandlingItAll3 жыл бұрын
The thing is... He wasn't just chasing his son down... He was chasing himself the entire time. That's the point. It was never really his kid he was chasing but himself, knowing better. He could never tell that "kid" don't do what you're going to do, what your parents told you not to. That's the secret to this song.

Momma helps the the best she can. There is no going back home. When I went to jail she said you got yourself in there get yourself out. But when I needed a ride she was there. We learn hard lessons and also learn that we are still loved. I love my momma. I might have to get myself out but I know who I can call on.

what a song. i raised my son in church, was a great mother. He started running with the wrong people before long i could not keep him out of jail. the last time he called me to get him out of jail i refused, he told me he did not have a mother. He is in prison now but you can never go back in time to change your way of life

One of the best Country band that I've been blessed to open for....Great bunch of guys too! Had the best time hanging out with them all....Genuine and down to earth!!!

Excellent song. I much preferred Confederate Railroad's slower story songs to their uptempo stuff....and this is definitely the best. Hard to imagine anything this powerful played on country radio today. Kind of surprising it was played back in 1993 to be honest.
