The thing, or bar, on the front of the Willys Jeep was added during the later part of WW2, around 44-45. The purpose was to cut piano wires and other things that the Germans would hang up between two trees to take off the heads of Allied forces that drove down the roads. The windshields were usually folded down to make the jeeps smaller as they were used as scout vehicles.

I was fucking hollering at this one, you flash a gun in front of the cops, stop and then go "Oh, yeah, my driver's licence is expired!" All the points of view I've seen from this, from Buggs, Jeff and Ryan to the LEO's has been so fucking funny.

The thing on the front of the jeep is a wire cutter. Basically the Germans would stretch a thin wire across the road that was hard to spot and would decapitate people who didn't notice. That thing would snap the wire, saving the occupants

Fun fact: The bar on the front of that jeep is to cut wire. Though rare. There were moments that drivers and passengers driving along a narrow road. End up having their heads cut clean off. All because someone ran a thin line of razor wire. And yes, at the speeds a Jeep can go on good roads. You can literally decapitate yourself. If someone lays out a line of thin razor wire. So those bars were designed to cut right through that wire or wires. Also, helps get through wire fences.

The wire cutter on front was due to enemys putting up nearly invisible wires in yhe trees that if somone driving hit it then it would cut thier head off so that was made to stop that from happening
