Shrek: 7/10 Comments: It's a decently fine film with great morals and witty humor. Shrek 2: 9/10 Comments: Easily the best in the series. Holding Out for A Hero is legendary. Shrek the Third: 2/10 Comments: Ruined the series. Unfunny, bland, and flavorless. Shrek: Forever After: 8/10 Comments: A worthy ending for this franchise. Foafy, you need to see it. But yeah, Shrek doesn't need to continue. Shrek 4 capped it off so beautifully that a sequel could ruin the entire purpose of that movie. Edit: I completely forgot Puss and Boots was a thing. 4/10 Predictable and painfully average, but a fun journey.

Emerson Fleming He actually originally wanted it be live action. However, he thought it works as an animated movie instead, so he gave it to Dreamworks, which is co-founded by Spielberg to make this film. CONFESSION: I never really liked Shrek. The gross humor just was never my thing, and I was too young to really understand what was happening. However, I absolutely LOVED Puss in Boots. It’s one of my favorite spin-off movies of all time, and I highly recommend it. I won’t say a whole lot, but the rapid action and excellent characters have charmed me forever. There’s one character that you’re constantly questioning his motives, constantly questioning what side he’s really on, and it’s one of the few movies that managed to do that successfully. 9/10! I take off a point only because there’s another character that legit scared me as a kid, but looking back, she doesn’t anymore. But the memories are there ^^;

Here’s my history with the Shrek movies: When I was a kid I would watch every Disney movie, but my family wasn’t that well off, so we would either watch a Disney movie in theaters or buy it on home-video, and very rarely would we do both, but one of the few exceptions to this rule was Mulan. Me and my sister were both obsessed with Mulan. My sister loved the girl power aspect of the film but I loved Mushu. I loved his design, I loved his jokes and I especially loved his voice (this was actually where I discovered Eddie Murphy as a kid). Soon after this I became obsessed with Pokémon. I played the games, watched the TV show to a near obsessive degree, and I just had to see the new movies whenever they came out. So when my mom took me to see Pokémon the movie 3, we saw the trailers for a number of upcoming releases including Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Osmosis Jones, (for some reason) Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and a little movie called...Shrek. This trailer was perfect. It immediately had me hooked. The designs were astonishing, the jokes were brilliantly timed, but most importantly, THE DONKEY HAD MUSHU’S VOICE! I had to see this film, and my mom, who is also an Eddie Murphy fan, wanted to see it as well. Two months later, my sister, my mom and I went to see Shrek in theaters, and two weeks later, we went to see it again. We also got the soundtrack on cassette and got the VHS on launch day, wearing both of them out in a matter of months. Needless to say, my family and I really enjoyed this film. Three years later, my sister and I walked two miles to the local movie theater to see Shrek 2, and, while I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the original, I still thought it was a really great film. Three years after that, and I got to see Shrek the Third as part of a free trip held by my church youth group. It was a free screening, and I still wanted my money back. I didn’t see Shrek Forever After or Puss in Boots until I was out of college. They were...fine, I guess, they just didn’t do anything for me. I guess I had just grown beyond Shrek at that point, but those first two movies are still classics.
