Configuration Case Study on the Roland MX-1

I get a lot of questions about setting up the Roland MX-1. Mainly around connecting it to a DAW and other instruments, both Roland and non-Roland.
So as this was an exchange over several days, I though this was worthy of walking through the conversation and my thought process in answering the questions that my fellow Tuber was asking.
This is a new format and something that I might do more of if it well received. Let me know if the case study idea works.

Hi Jon - yes, fully subscribed & starting to look at all your vids - SO helpful !! I'm down near Worthing & just starting my journey learning MusicTheory/Ableton / midi & synths ......plus MC 707/TR8s & Se02, opening up my MX-1 tomorrow - so know that's going to be quite interesting working out the right leads & connections !!!!! whereabouts are you ???......& how long does it take to get anywhere close to your standard of knowledge ?

Let me know how you get on with the MC707. I have ordered the re-imagined S2400. Basically an update on the EMU SP1200. But I think it is aimed at the same market demographic. I like the idea of the MC707, but know with the S2400 I just wouldn't use it other than some demo stuff for the channel. Again with the MX-1 let me know how you end up using it. I gave up on the whole Ableton / DAW surface idea. It just didn't work for me. I really just use it as an external mixer that presents audio channels to the computer. I am based currently based a few miles down the coast toward Chichester. In terms of knowledge, there is the inter-web of course and reading up on stuff. I find a lot of this just very logical, I work in the computer industry, And of course my younger self was a DJ and played in a band. I use to turn up to find the sound engineer (if there was on) was a spotty herbert that knew bugger all about sound engineering and was more interesting in drinking. So I became the guy that typically sorted the sound out for the bands on the card that night. So I picked up lots then. Like my pet peeve incorrectly fused equipment in the UK. Jon

Hi Jon ........ many thx for that , I’m actually in Angmering , so even closer !!!! Seems like I have an even longer journey in front of me - but , loving the chance to learn my long held passion ....... could always ‘swap’ kitesurf or Tai Chi lessons for your music help if either appeals to you !!!🤔😃😃😃. Unpacking the MX-1 tomorrow & TB-3 arrives next week , so I’ll see how I get on. Cheers. Mark
