It's important to note that USB console port is not enabled by default on Juniper devices, so when dealing with unknown devices it's better to go straight for the RJ45 console port.

Thanks for this video! At 3:20 you said that "load factory-default" resets all config/accounts EXCEPT the root password. However, I just tested this out on a vMX and it does indeed reset the root password. Is this different depending on the platform? It seems to me that it simply does an override of the factory-default config, which always is missing the root password, right? jcluser@vMX2# show system root-authentication encrypted-password "$6$udVQMR.U$veP00l0NjAZFEfiEba..HH6PKVMfL.hdA2HeTjbQtadmoBj6oGaPPFtxy3aReQvwyI6wzXQ9wBZE8Gc/3/Jg.."; ## SECRET-DATA [edit] jcluser@vMX2# load factory-default warning: activating factory configuration [edit] jcluser@vMX2# commit [edit] 'system' Missing mandatory statement: 'root-authentication' error: commit failed: (missing mandatory statements)

Since I made this I found that it seems to vary depending on platform
