Gamers already understand this. Stormbreaker was built as a soft-counter to Thanos. That doesn't necessarily make it stronger than the Gauntlet; it's more like using an anti-tank missile vs a tank. My own understanding of the "dilemma" before watching the video: 1: The stones have infinite power, but the gauntlet does not. It's ability to harness their power is not infinite. 2: The gauntlet/stones are only as powerful as the ability of their user to wield them: the battle on Titan showed that while Thanos had enough stones to easily defeat any hero, he actually had to think of a way to use them in order to prevail. 3: The minutes prior to the snap: Thanos had just easily walked through every Avenger without issue. In half the cases he didn't even need to use a stone. Thanos had every reason to think that some flying guy with an axe could just be blasted away. He was not prepared for anything that could resist the power of the stones, and had no time to react to that new information. After watching the video I can add a couple more: 4: The gauntlet can burn itself out: using the full power of the gauntlet on Stormbreaker might have irreversibly damaged the gauntlet before he could deliver the snap. 5: Thanos' holy crusade: He saw himself as a moral figure and with higher principles than others. He didn't want to kill anyone he didn't have to, and had sympathy/respect for those he did. So when he fired on Thor/Stormbreaker he wasn't going for the kill because he thought he didn't need to.

Think of it this way; a gun marksman has all the skill, knowledge and power in him, it's innate to his being; however, without a good weapon, his abilities are greatly diminished. The gun is his outlet, it enhances his abilities and the better the gun, the better his output. A firefight with a 9mm pistol doesn't standup to one with a high powered rifle, which increases both your aim, rate of fire, ammo capacity and stopping power. You can get the job done with either, but not as effectively with the pistol. The same applies to Thor; he has all the power and skill in him, but a strong weapon greatly increases his output. Thor weaponless is like the marksman with a pistol. Thor with Mjolnir is like a powerful rifle and Stormbreaker is a fully modded 50 cal machine gun with all the attachments. Sure, he could have beat a depowered Surtur without Mjolnir, but he would have to fall back on other, less effective skills like dodging rather than being able to outright block his fire with Mjolnir and counterattack. With Stormbreaker, one blast would've ended Surtur. He couldn't even hurt Hela with or without Mjolnir, her defenses were too good, but with Stormbreaker he may have been able to annihilate her (debatable, of course, but much better chance.)

The best theory is: It's just Uru vs Uru not Thor's power vs infinity stones Gauntlet and Stormbreaker, both are just tools, made of uru metal. both needs a source of power. He has a clear agenda, he does what he was going to do. He wipe out half of the universe randomly, not base on whether who play against him or who is powerful and useful, but base on pure randomization, which was his original plan on Titan. He may kill people that out of his plan while getting the stones, but he didn't kill anyone after he got all the stone. He is a man not only with a plan, but with a strong will and strict rules of action. @@arturzathas499 if you watched that teleporting scene in slow motion you can see thanos's chest is healing with a green light around the chest wound.which means he used time stone to Reverse the wound i.e to heal the wound.so he is using 2 stones. So I think that if Thanos wanted to fix the gauntlet he can use time stone to fix it without directly keeping the gauntlet in front of the time stone as he did with his wound.

Why has nobody else pointed this out: During the fight between Thanos and Stark on Titan, Stark uses his arc blasters set to 11 as his armor is being converted to energy and disappearing -- Thanos blocks this concentrated energy beam with the gauntlet and for a split second you can see molten metal dripping from the gauntlet -- my theory is that Stark irreparably damaged the gauntlet and this is why it catastrophically failed during the snap. This failure is what will give the Avengers their fighting chance in Endgame
