32:40 you mentioned earlier placing paths so people don't need to drive everywhere but currently you have that highway splitting the suburb in half, there's no pedestrian connections across the highway so people going from one side of it to the other are still using cars. if you add pedestrian underpasses or overpasses for the highway , and a few more local shops so people don't have to drive to the city, it would become truly walkable

You can upgrade your Taxi service by setting down a station and upgrading it therefore you don't need stops as people can call for a cab to wherever they are.

Do you know if theres some extra benefit to having a taxi station? I currently don't have one but I get hundreds of taxis coming into my city anyways giving people rides. Seems redundant to add that to my budget when they're coming in for free anyways.

You could nuke all your bus lines, and redo them in a logical manner, connecting residences to places of interest(workplaces, commercial, tourist attractions), or even last mile connectivity from tram stops and train stations to the residential zones

The city's coming along well now! I would encourage you to connect the four separate suburbs with pedestrian paths as right now they are quite walkable within themselves, but are separated from eachother by highways/major roads. Also, I would have liked to have seen the pathway around the suburb elementary school connect to the pedestrian road in more places, especially by the roundabout. I also wish you would have not put trees into that little field between the school and the soccer pitch - that should have been a good free-play space for the kids. The farming peninsula had a weird space void of farms before they pick back up again, some more livestock farms to replace the ones you swapped to wheat would fill that nicely.

One thing you need to consider is adding more elementary schools will start causing a ripple effect. Once more people/sims pass out from Elementary School they will want to go to High School and the same thing will carry forward to Collage and University. The number of sims may differ but I believe you might need add a few of them in the near future

I'd argue the same goes for the high schools too. There are colleges AND universities. In the UK at least, secondary education is for 11-16 and tertiary is 16-19. In the UK you CAN drive at 16, but only if it's a moped which travels under 30mph (or if you're disabled you can have a normal car), and insurance is very expensive. Basically, the high schools don't need parking for students either.

If your having a central point that your Industry bus line goes out to how about putting in a small service area for it to use, if it's along the highway it would almost be like a rest stop area that has grown over time. Have a couple of the local services to suport the industry in there (Fire/Police/Medical), a couple of commercial and a few houses/motel. Nothing too big. You can use it as the central stop of the Industry Shuttle and then have 3/4 lines for your Industry buses to the seperate areas (Industry West, Industry North, etc) rather than 1 full loop of everything. A single 9-stop 20km bus line might be why it's trying to use so many buses. There is maybe even a space for it in the area between the covered bridge and forestery which could give a nice river side or mountain side view.

Your residential would be a night and day difference if you manually zoned their sizes Vary up the sizes 3x3, 2x3, 4x4 etc while sometimes leaving some space in between them too. I know its painfully long to do but it truly makes a world of difference for the suburbs. Great job on the layout though, it looks awesome! Also I agree European low density houses in this are the only way to go ha
@SineN0mine3
@SineN0mine3 Жыл бұрын
You can accomplish this fairly quickly by zoning one side of the street with 3 square of depth and the other with four, or whichever combination you prefer. Once they've started to develop you can zone the opposite side of the block with the paint bucket and you should get a decent variety. It your block sizes have an odd number of squares in length then you'll get this naturally by zoning one side of the road at a time. Alternatively you can start with blocks that have a spacing of 12 square allowing for the max depth on both sides and once the area is desirable and well serviced you can split the blocks in half.

@SineN0mine3

I have half a dozen post offices in my city of 42k pop and they're all working fine. There are a lot of bugs in a game as complex as this but most of them are only affecting a small number of players or occuring rarely. Many of them are fixed by restarting the game. It's well worth testing these commonly reported bugs before you decide not to use particular assets. Many people are saying cargo trains are also broken and not usable but I'm also having no issues there. It's possible that these players are setting things up incorrectly and calling their own mistakes bugs. It's more likely though that most of these bugs are minor, temporary and rare. If they were occuring for every player every time they played they would be quickly noticed by Collosal Order and addresses. They have been very thorough at documenting identified bugs and so far few if any have the potential to prevent you from playing the game. Bugs are fairly common, they're just rarely game breaking. There seems to minor bugs in the cim AI and due to the way the game works they're going to affect every aspect of the game. If the developers are using genuine AI techniques to simulate their cims then the only way they can locate and address bugs with their AI is by running the simulations over and over again and waiting for problems to arise.

I think you’re treating elementary and high schools a little too much like colleges or universities in real life. In the city I live in there’s 100 total schools between elementary and high schools but only 2 main universities and a few colleges. My point is that you should consider putting down more general education because obviously there’s 17k students eligible for elementary in your city that are not being enrolled because you only have 3 schools in your city of almost 100k. I think you should put maybe 1-3 schools PER neighborhood depending on the size of the neighborhoods.

American houses are so much grey because they need to have parking space. Big trucks for almost every familiy member because America is a car-oriented country. See all those parkinglots with every commercial and industrial building We, in Europe, use cars but trains, busses and bikes also. It is also very clear that you don't use busses in real live. The way you make lines is a disaster. People have to sit the whole route to get to the stop they needed. Always make lines with stops on both sides of the streets. Lines always going out to the farest stop and than return on the same route. Missing a shoppingcentre is missing a lot of people. THAT is a destination too! (besides schools, city centre and trainstations). Connect every col-de-sac with a pad to the nearest road. (32:35 on the left for example) Makes for a lot of walkers, leaving the cars at home... 50:01 Big, big mistake. Tramstop NEXT to the school! And again a stop on the way back. See how much you need to be in a tram towards the city. Going around the school where you do not want to go to. No, you do not use public transport, that I am sure off. Elementry schools need to be IN the community so kids can walk or bike to school That spot 34:30 is perfect for a College or a University. Those things need space around them, for parking, for houses where the students sleep and so on. 35:08 Oh, stop it! Place them down. It is not how YOU look at it (will you ever?) it is about if the city will work! And it is not good without it. Hardly any builder upgrades these later on. "I don't have the money now, Will do later". Remember saying "those traintracks will go" 46:11? It is the second episode today you said it again. It is still there....

During the entire episode he made 10 million and the red negative arrow showed the entire time.

Surplus resources, materials and non material goods like software and finance are exported from your city for a profit. This figure is not mentioned in the budget nor in your hourly/monthly income. I don't think this is a bug, just not well explained. They're left out of the budget because the profits are inconsistent and not something the player should rely on for setting tax rates or spending if they want stability. I'm sure it was a deliberate choice, however it would be much clearer if your exports were shown somewhere in game. The amount of material you produce, the amount you consume, and the export price of those material is constantly changing and isn't actually being recorded by the game as far as I can tell. Instead, each time the goods leave your city, you simply gain income. It's not ideal, but you can use the chart for "trade value" to see where the extra money is coming from. It's not very granular but it's enough to tell you roughly how much over budget you can afford to be. You're also making money from tourists which I don't believe is counted in you budget either. Fortunately ths value is recorded on a simple chart called "Income from tourists" making it fairly easy to extrapolate. If that feels like a lot of work, you can just tweak your budget, run the simulation and check whether your money is going up or down. Once you've reached point where you're no longer losing money you can stop raising taxes and reducing spending. It's not particularly important at any stage how much money you're making, as lot as you're in the black you always have option to simply leave the city as it is and watch the money accumulate. Once you're past the mid game you'll be making plenty of money and concerning yourself more with how to best utilise your valuable land and how to manage your traffic networks.

The police HQ (large police building) looks very modern/metropolitan. The large fire station is a little more classic looking but it's also very suitable for an urban environment. I'm not sure what you mean when you say they're not in vanilla. They're much nicer looking assets than Skylines 1's and they actually seem to have enough room to store the massive fleets of police cars and fire trucks that they come with. All the same I'm looking forward to having more choices for these items when mods are finally released.

@SineN0mine3
@SineN0mine3 Жыл бұрын
Cims will walk on any kind of road, even the narrow lanes and dirt roads. That means that pedestrian paths are usually redundant, except when they cut through blocks and reduce the distance required to travel. Being redundant doesn't make them useless though, cims greatly prefer to walk on seperated paths because they'll almost always have lower noise pollution, especially if the streets they'd otherwise be walking down have parking on them. The more comfortable a walking route is, the more likely some cims are to prefer it over other methods of travel. You can see that many of these footpaths cut the length of the blocks in half, these paths will likely be utilised the most since they save the cim from having to walk to the end of the block to reach the intersection. If you use roadway heirarchy and restrict the number of intersections on your arterials footpaths are vital to ensuring you have pedestrians travel anywhere other than the shortest of trips. Driving 500m to enter a residential estate is trivial, but walking that distance is enough to make somebody prefer to drive or taxi to their destination, especially if they're going to have to do the same thing to enter the shopping district.
@ThurmanJamison

@@SineN0mine3 I don't disagree with you that the paths are a useless feture. I just don't think you need so many paths in those areas. My point is where are they going? Unfortunately, that is how the demand works. You will get demand for low density and a smattering of medium and high. I'm surprised people were asking why you use mostly European zoning. Not surprising to me. @SineN0mine3 Жыл бұрын
They've announced a free "region" pack which will coincide with the launch of mods. There's going to be new zoneables and service buildings to suit 8 new themes from places around the world. For some reason most of the North American low density residential homes are set right at the back of their blocks. The EU themes have more back yards, and much more grass in general. I don't think that's particularly reflective of NA and Europe in general, but the designers seem to have been inspired by specific towns or suburbs in each. Once we get access to the asset editors it should be fair easy to make our own version of the vanilla NA homes and move them to the middle of the blocks. It's worth noting you don't tend to get much of a yard unless you use the largest zone sizes.

@SineN0mine3
@SineN0mine3 Жыл бұрын
Have you got 100% employment in all of the farms? It's probably intended for you to import grain after a certain size, generally large cities are not places where large amounts of grain are grown since it require such a lot of land. Generally they'd import grain (along with livestock, vegetables and plant fibres to be fair) from the greater region. Perhaps it's more effective to focus on textiles and manufacturing since there's better profits to be made on those exports than in food. You could then use your profit to support more food imports. Grain is used in many different production chains so it's possible you have too much manufacturing or the wrong types of manufacturing. You can encourage or discourage certain types of manufacturing via your taxes. If you haven't got a large supply of crude oil; for example, your factories will turn much of your grain into biofuels to sell to your service (gas) stations. If you put a higher tax on industrial petrochemicals you might see your overall consumption come down.

Yes, I think the assumption is that you'll want to place your livestock near your other farms and your stone near your other mines, you see the info view so that you don't waste the resources on them. It would make more sense to see all of the resources, especially when the map editor comes out. For now resources are usually fairly spread apart, but there's no reason you wouldn't see them adjacent in new maps. You don't want to cover your fertile land with a quarry or your ore deposits with a livestock farm.

If you have a surplus of any goods and when they sell them, it doesn’t show up on your revenue screen, so that’s probably how you made that extra 10 million 💸

Money aspect is weird in this game. Stats says that you are losing money, but you keep gaining it.

For whatever reason your material and resource exports are not counted in your budget breakdown or hourly/monthly income. It's probably because the value of exports changes over time as does the rate at which you export. If you based your tax rate and spending on that figure, you'd probably have constant problems due to traffic and the value of your key exports changing with market demand. It's not ideal to leave it out entirely, and it feels like you should be able to see statistics related to exports somewhere in the game if they're not going to appear in the economy panel. Nonetheless, your taxes and city service expenses and fees are working as intended it's just poorly explained.

@@Foxy_ARBeach properties is due first, they've announced it for later this year although it seems likely that delays will be possible. Next we're supposed to get Urban Promenades at the start of next year, along with Modern Architecture. Bridges and Ports should be a few months after that if all goes to plan. There's very little details yet about these DLC so some might be more similar to the content packs we had for Skylines 1 as opposed to full blown expansions. It's possible that Bridges and Ports will be the first proper DLC, but I'm hoping that Urban Promenades comes with some gameplay features too. We're also getting the free region pack whenever they finish working on their mod platform, so lots of content to look forward to but hardly any details.
