It's been a lifetime since I last watched any of the Beethoven movies and as such my jaw just dropped seeing that it was Oliver Platt and Stanley Tucci who played the two henchmen. And Tucci even still had hair!

Exactly! From being willing to do anything to get rid of Beethoven, to seeing the dog as just as much a part of the family as his children are, and having a similarly fatherly urge to protect him.

I think it developed when he confesses to Beethoven and likely reveals and implicates why he refuse to have Beethoven or any pets in the house besides goldfish
