I could see a look in Beethoven's eyes "please, please, please, give me attention and I love you!". Beethoven's many things, but, he's not an aggressive, vicious, dangerous dog. He's so friendly, loyal, protective, caring and one of the best judges of character you could possibly ever meet.

Look, I feel George's frustration with the house being a mess all the time and most of responsibility of caring for the dog falls on him, but can he really blame his children for being more fond of Beethoven. Beethoven is an affectionate dog whose main goal is to show his family love while George Newton is a workaholic, perfectionist, and control-freak who puts his career and keeping a clean house ahead of his family. Still, I guess underneath his orge-like exterior, he has a good heart and loves his family. I'm glad in time he learnt to love Beethoven too.

After seeing how he fought Dr. Varnick (shocking to see Dean Jones in a role like that), and those two bad guys, he definetly showed his true colors for the Newton family. You can’t thank him enough. 🤍

It’s revealed later that he had a dog in his youth - a dog which his own father took to be put down, and George hated him for it. It’s possible George didn’t want his own children to go through the pain of losing a pet after becoming emotionally attached to one, as he had been.

Well said. I think he just feels unapricated and a little wrapped up in his work and doesn't know how to balance family and work. It's interesting that his own father had to take his dog to be put to sleep. I wonder why maybe it was sick or old but George was too young to really grasp it.

I don't think it was that bad I think probably to George it felt like it was the most horrible thing because he didn't want the dog in the beginning lol

Bonnie Hunt was pretty much the older sister shouldn't have been cast as the mom. She was only in her 20's in this I find that crazy! She could have been his daughter
