So the police had every right to hold them at the gate. If they were in dress uniform I can guarantee that barricade would have been moved within seconds by the police or if not the Guardsmen in line order would have dismounted, their fellow to the left would have taken his reins and they would have moved the barrier themselves and moved forward.... I will say though, fair play. The police officer was only doing his duty though...

Indeed, The King's cypher, CR III (Charles Rex The Third) is brightly and prominently displayed on the sides of the saddle blankets. However, nevertheless, they are completely correct in complying with the Highway Code upon meeting Police officers performing traffic control. From what I can see it looks like they are coming along The Mall towards Admiralty Arch; and since we can see road works and traffic filtering, there is Plod on traffic control. Just typical London, in any normal day. The sheen on the horse's coats does seem to indicate that those horses want for nothing. Nice work, if you can get it!!!

Horse guards parade was being raked (the stones were being rolled and flattened ) by a machine. There was merely a slight delay while the raking was completed. And everyone remained polite and professional The kings guard can move about freely without hinderance and the police know not to stop the kings guard in carrying out its duties. The Lt. Col stood in blues was acting as liaison The mounted detachment continued into Horseguards and went onto rehearse bits and bobs for trooping the colour next month. If the policeman was preventing the guard exercising its functions they would simply have ignored him and ridden past. The barrier would have been opened and the officer would have been ignored and reported for stupidity. But that’s not what happened, when the parade square is being raked. Stones are kicked up and that’s dangerous for the horses. Hence the delay on entering The met are often hopeless woke tragic cases, but this is not one of those examples Sorry to spoil the vibe with a little base reality

I have consider this carefully, and conclude the officer should be commended not critisized for doing his job. Monogram blankets is not proof of id. Because of security, the police should have been informed, and one of the lead riders should have had photographic id. Its an extremely dangerous world we live in, why take chances.

There is some merit in what you say about ID. But where the Royal Family and its traditions are concerned, not every member of the Royal households has the right to go anywhere they wish, so ID cards would and should not be acceptable. But better briefing of the 'CONSTABLE' not Police officer would have been better, then he could have checked on his clip board that they were allowed in at a certain time or else explain why the holdup. The appearance of the Lt. Colonel should have ironed out the matter. The police forget that many areas of London are in fact Crown Property where they have no jurisdiction unless authorised by the Royal Household Officer of the Day who would have received information before hand.

There is also the factor that perhaps the police sniffer dogs were doing a security sweep of the Parade ground. And the officer needed an all-clear to let them proceed. In Stuttgart, once there was a king (I think it was Wilhelm) who had his own vineyards. Shortly before the harvest, so-called "Wengertschützen" (vineyard guards) were appointed to prevent both birds and humans from stealing the royal fruit. Met have to follow procedures. If they were not told the horses would need access to the Park, then that's the fault of higher up and they need to check first, no matter who it is. The riders are military, but accompanying people who will clearly be riding in Trooping of the colour and need a bit of practice first. They're in civilan dress so they don't draw too much attention. I've seen this before when Princess Anne was riding through Kensington Palace Gardens a couple of days before the Coronation. I recognised the horses before the rider

Well that took longer than necessary, he clearly couldn't be arsed to move the barrier. I witnessed a police officer the other day struggling to get out of his patrol car, he must have weighed 20 stone,,,

Just has to look at the saddle pads to recognize the royal insignia. However there are protocols to be observed. At least police officer doing his job, if he was wrong his senior in van would have intervened. The guardsmen did attend to confirm as per protocol. Perhaps someone forgot an ID. It was also suggested he was holding the horses while the grounds raking in the background is completed preventing any debris from impacting the horses.

To the whingers criticising the officer for doing his job dilligantly....its why its called security.....you cant be lax ... especially now adays where everything such as thise crests can be illegally obtained.....and if they were guardsman....they were in civilian clothes......terriosts come in all colors today...so good on the copper for doing his job at the security checkpoint....otherwise you might as well leave it open for anyone to ride in

It’s the kings horses. All of the Mall and st James’s park are the kings private property. The crown allows the public access, you can tell because the roads are red. Green park and st James’s park were part of the original B’ham palace gardens. Horse guards was an entrance from Whitehall on to the estate. Wellington barracks were also in the estate.

The policeman wasn't rude or confrontational, which helped the horses stay so calm, and sought confirmation prior to opening the barriers. Yet loads of criticism below because???? And think what would have happened if he had just let them through and consequently caused an incident. Sounds like you should do something about these disgraceful actions and join the police yourselves, so you can show these policeman how it should be done.....Anyone????

Cop was just doing his job. No one was wearing a uniform. Best to be safe, not sorry. Easily resolved when a uniformed officer arrived on site. The riders just looked like a bunch of rich people from an elite riding club. . There was an incident in Sydney where a prankster hired a limo, a group for a motor bike escort and drove up to an international event hosting world leaders. The prankster got out pretending to be Bin Laden. It was a private SECURITY GUARD (Securecorp I think) who finally challenged the entourage after it passed multiple police checkpoints. Outcome was that the prankster and the entourage were arrested, vehicles seized and an attempted hush-up to save face. Government Security became the joke of the day.
