Shahe Gjerga oh God, you just stepped into a minefield. It depends on the bike feel you want, most bike manufacturers have a size chart for their bikes, but first you have to find out what ride feel you like and what brand fits that, you will find that out in time as you ride more and try some of your friends bikes. but there is a video on gmbn I think about what size is right for you when your in between two sizes.

First GREAT topic. Second, very knowledgeable as always. Third, Very quick summary so much so that I feel many topics mentioned need more elaboration and application points for decision making/purchasing. For example, it sounds like a hookless rim is preferrable to reduce chances of burping. However I don't remember seeing rims/wheels listed as 'hookless' design. How can we know if a a rim is that style (does it go by other names) and how do we know what tires would work best/be compatible with those rims? thanks!

Running 27.5x2.6" Magic Mary f/r, moving on to 29", will also run the same tyres, would've liked to run 2.35" rear, but it wasn't an option so 2.6 is fine. (All of this on 30mm ID-rims)

I'm not sure that boost spacing for the front wheel is actually the best idea. One would think that it would weaken the fork somewhat. Also, while it may build a stiffer wheel, is that what we really want out of our front wheels? Crankbrothers Synthesis wheels are very well reviewed and part of there ethos is having a front wheel with a bit more give. Just a thought.

Why does there seem to be very little support for replacement Boost141 Qr wheels? Loads of entry-level hardtails use the standard, including mine, but getting a replacement or upgrading the wheel is a nightmare. There are a few options using Hope/DTSwiss etc premium hubs but nothing in the mid-range that's normally covered by Shimano and the like. Any ideas as I can make a massive difference to my hardtail by replacing the wheels, in ride quality and weight.

@tittlemouse92 it's basically the same quick release principle. Same as in bikes from 15 years ago, just wider. You need to have through axle these days. It make frame stiffer, easier to maintain. With quick release sometimes you have to readjust rear brake each time you take off the wheel.

Hello Experts, I have an entry level Giant Revel frame that's running on v brakes and I see that the back end can be setup for disc brakes and I have JUDY TT shocks that can be disc braked as well for the front. The goal for this bike is to use it as a city commuter without fearing about theft too much. I've easily purchased a new front rim that has the correct hub for discs but my troubles are finding a rear wheel with a disc brake hub, im really going budget for this therefore I'm wondering about two things; A. Can my current 26" rim brake rim be converted to a disc brake and is it better to put a cassette there instead of the freewheel ? B. If not A then do I have to buy it all separate and build my own rim? Hopefully somebody can help me figure this out as in store shopping is not allowed here in Ontario Canada

ok thanx very informative. can you help me with something odd ? This a crossover question , I am older so have traded in all my various wheeled toys for a mobility scooter. but as the top speed on most models made ( except Afikim ) is governed at 9mph ( sorry old school & don't know how to convert to klms ) what I've decided to do is build a custom unit of my own design. Its planned to look like a 1933 Ford CCab delivery boxed truck . But micro sized. I missed the big hotrod days but was very active when we customized mini PUs & box vans. So I see this as my potential last hurrah. I am using a Pride mobility scooter for basic power & controls ( unless My preferred favorite scooter the Afikim S4 might find it's way into my precents } I am adding a full size grocery cart mounted front {the push bar ) against back of scooter seat to both provide enough length to carry profile & cargo . I know the top speed of this unit was 9mph per police radar. So my question is when I replace rear 8" drive tires with dually 29" mountain bike wheel & knobby tires what should be my new top speed? What I'm looking for is the math formula to calculate it. My main style for this custom is retro cyberpunk. Due to my resent loss of over half my vision This will me my daily driver. So I'm trying to reach at least 25mph to keep out of traffics way. ( bike lanes ). so Ol Troll is working to both still get around at least my town ( this has been a hard new reality to get used to, I went legally blind & wife left } but I have GOD, 5 grown children & 13 of 14 grandchildren . And good Lord whiling I can build this new scooter to have some fun. I had idea of building a custom scooter club to give some of my aged contemperaries some fun as well. I see on YT that they have this in Europe so who knows we could complete to see who can build them better.
