The novelization of the John Carpenter movie actually explains that Mike learned how to drive by simply watching Loomis do it. A very simple explanation that reinforces Michael's status as one of the most observant and intelligent slasher villains.

regarding the mask not deteriorating - i've had a few halloween masks that were bought in 2006-2008 that get tossed into a box and then displayed outside on dummies every Halloween that still look damn near pristine - including a Michael Myers mask. from what I understand from mask collectors what causes the masks to rot is oils from skin building up and in some cases extreme heat. in the context of this movie it was worn once and then tucked into a floor in Illinois so it's not too far-fetched that it was still in one piece 15 years later.

34:38 Interestingly enough, Zombie said in an interview between 2006-2009 about how much he hated Jason Voorhees when asked if Michael would fight Jason. Which is so weird considering Halloween II made Michael more like Jason with his mom's loyalty, and even his hobo clothes look very Jason. Not to mention his heavy use of sex throughout both his films. He was even considered to direct Freddy vs Jason but turned it down.

i used to really like this remake because it explained michael's backstory and stuff, but now it just doesn't land. Michael's backstory wasn't needed and if you're going to do it then do it on a less generic manner dude cuz this just doesn't work with michael. you're not to sympathize with him, he's _the shape,_ the living incarnation of the word evil. not a sympathetic or tragic character like Jason or Leatherface, but pure evil instead. you can notice how bad Zombie wanted to do a TCM remake instead of a halloween one and put as much TCM stuff as he could into this movie. adult Michael himself, he's hairy, does masks and is BIG like Leather, and this character specifically shouldn't be THAT big. the big guys are Jason and Leatherface, Michael's presence is much more subtle and less reflected on his size.

Not to mention that this teenage boy and bully character here he played Wesley himself according to the Halloween franchise fandom he’s 13 years old. Did I forget to mention that Michael Myers in the original as a child doesn’t have pets (Despite here in the remake he owns domesticated rats)? Oh yeah I also forgot to mention that Danny Trejo was at least in there and the best part is he would later go on to star in a better horror film Predators (2010) (Which is one of my favorite horror film franchises created by Disney’s 20th Century Studios since 1987) because of their iconic horror characters the yautja.

Even as someone who in my own video on Halloween(2007) was more fair on this movie(because believe it or not it has some things that I actually liked in it) I agree with the general consesus that it’s not very good. I’m a little heartbroken though because in the bones of this movie there are good ideas. Being able to see more of Michael and Loomis in the asylum was a good idea, Tyler Mane is intimidating as fuck, the gore effects are gnarly, there were a ton of really talented actors in it. I can see how in an alternate universe, if made by a director and writer who was more fit for the project, this could have been a really good movie but unfortunately I don’t think Rob Zombie was a good choice to make a Halloween movie

Honestly, it doesn’t matter how much people hate on the RZ movies. I love them, and in a way enjoy them even better than the original. I like the aggressive pace the movie goes at, rather than a lot starting off slow, and kinda boring in a way. And the kills are way more brutal too, and Michael in my opinion is WAY more intimidating. His look is really good too, between the height, and the mask is pretty well done. Sure the opening scene can be argued about, but other than that, is it really so bad? There’s plenty of great roles in the movie too that people seem to just be completely ignored for whatever reason. Scout played a decent Laurie considering being a remake version, rather than being JLC herself, Malcolm was an interesting take on loomis, Laurie’s adoptive parents were good, etc. Brad played brackett pretty good too. There’s other stuff that could be talked about, like the atmosphere fitting super well with the story, the soundtrack, etc. I think a lot of people just don’t like RZ’s style of movies, which isn’t for Everton if you don’t like raunchy, over the top horror movies. But that doesn’t make a movie bad simply because it doesn’t appeal to a specific audience. Also, I’ve heard the “he misunderstood what made the original scary” argument a lot, and I don’t think he did at all. He simply just went the direction he wanted.

Rob Zombies Halloween is my least favourite of the franchise. It's so unappealing, angsty, and not profound. Rob Zombie movies feel like they're made to induce psychosis. He's got some trailer trucker meth vibes. He should learn how to write a movie WELL if he wants to release great movies. Despite this being worse or less watchable/entertaining than resurrection (1 1/2 stars), technically, RZH1 has a bit more going for it. Brad Douriff is the saving grace of this, Scout's Laurie, on the other hand....

Halloween 07 is like bad but its not bad on the level where i can waste energy hating it. Its like easy to avoid and it doesn't do anything i really hate (besides the SA scene) Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 however is the worst fucking franchise slasher movie ever made (the remake of NOES is only marginally better) . My friend got that scream factory halloween box set when we were both really hung over and he decided to put the loudest most obnoxious movies on likely to be a dick, and while I got through 1 unscathed 2 fucking made me actually throw up because it was just so jarringly loud and shitty. I think its sad that Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th had the best remakes of that era. also the Prom Night sequels were just canadian productions that licensed out the prom night name, Hello Marylou is actually a pretty solid low budget 80s horror movie and the third prom night while not nearly as good was actually filmed at my high school in toronto and it has the dude who got his arm broken by Jeff Goldblum in The Fly as a science teacher.

Alright, let's get something straight, the original HALLOWEEN movie was lightning in a bottle. It was a figment of it's time in history. Nothing like that had ever happened. It was like STAR WARS for Horror fans. However, with that said, it DOES NOT HOLD UP 45+ years later. The only thing that does is the music. The slow pacing, the bad dialog, it's boring, it's dated, it's 100% overrated. It IS NOT the best of the series. When it came to Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN, when it was announced, the very first thing on everyone's mind was "can he write a movie that IS NOT white trash!?" The answer was NO. It had the same bullshit dialog of House of a Thousand Corpses and Devils Rejects, but with Michael Myers in it. I get what he was trying to do, by making Michael a Frankenstein monster that you try and "connect" with/take pity on, but it just doesn't work. The first act, was the white trash family portion. Garbage. The second act was the insane asylum, which whether you watch the Theatrical or Unrated Directors Cut, both have interesting ways of him escaping. Still dumb. The part of that movie that still shines to this day, is the 3rd act, which is just a sped up version of John Carpenter's original. So 1 hour was wasted on Act One and Act Two, just to get to the amazing Act Three remake. Watching the, what was it, 4 hour long documentary on the making of it, really did show how crazy it was to make it. It DID NOT SHOW the meddling from the Weinsteins that was definitely going on though. So to his credit, Rob did make a "good" HALLOWEEN film, just only telling the part that someone else had already written before and altering it.
@ema40203 ай бұрын
what? the original definetly holds up. it doesn't feel slow paced for me, it just adds to the eeriness and minimalistic approach of the movie. and the third act is just really tense, i was on the verge of my seat when i watched it on netflix. and people who first watches the movie in modern times still really like it because it is a good horror film. like the original TCM, it manages to be creepy but on a different manner. TCM ugly and rusted photography that transmits heat and texas summer everytime you see it, use of sound, close ups and the dinner scene elevate that movie into full nightmare fuel. halloween is just eerie and has a sense of uneasiness during the entire film. the slow pace completely elevates the third act.
@adrianphillips21363 ай бұрын
I kinda agree. It's around a 4-4 1/2 star movie (in my mind). There is a definite lull in the 2nd act, which did provide a bit too much atmosphere over developing the story, it feels like forced motif eventually. The real things that keep the original "timeless" to me is Dr Sam Loomis and Michael Myers. H20 Laurie is better than the original. I review the original fairly harshly, acknowledging the numerous individual improvements in the sequels. It was only meant to be one movie, or, an anthology. I can (retroactively) assume the basis for my less-than-stellar review hinges on some-subsequent Halloween entries, only diminishing the atmosphere (and the efficacy of the horror) they crafted in this one. Shame, at least there's always Scream (1996) for me!
