I remember your house being bigger. Please can you explain how we can use "being" like that
@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
As far as I know the use is just ok. "Remember" is a special verb. - "I remember your house being bigger". # when you use a gerund after "remember" the sentence has another meaning, like this; - IT'S NOT THE SAME TO SAY; - I remember your big house. = Recuerdo tu cada grande. AND. TO SAY - I remember your house being bigger. = Recuerdo que tu casa era más grande. THEY CONVEY DIFFERENT IDEAS. I translated both sentences into Spanish, just in case you know Spanish, so you can see the difference.

@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
@@dinadina7427 You're right buddy BUT. You can't remove that paper easily, first you gotta scrape it off because it's very stuck and then you pour water on it and you can easily remove what's left.

Why do we say an electric can opener but an electrical appliance?
@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
Because "appliances don't function by using electricity" they're just pieces related to electricity. But, we can say "electric television" because you've got to plug it to an outlet if you want it to work or function, it uses electricity.
@_8-_-8_Ай бұрын
@fredylopez2477 It said that an appliance is 'a device or piece of equipment designed to perform a specific task'. A television is also a piece of equipment, so I don't agree with your comment. It could be an exception, though. I'd like to know if I'm missing something about this 'appliance'.
@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
@@_8-_-8_ Well, a television is a "Device" that functions or works by using electricity; just like a razor, a fridge, a dryer, a computer etc etc... BUT NOT a piece of equipment. A television a fridge, a razor, a dryer, a computer; they all perform a s pecific task. A piece of equipment is; a screwdriver, pliers, tweezers, outlets, plugs etc etc... They could also be called "TOOLS" and they're used to perform a specific task too, they're tools. "Device and Appliance" are synonyms in some cases like; a drill, because a drill is a tool or a piece of equipment but it needs electricity to function so it's also a device. However, there can also be "POWER TOOLS" because they use electricity to function; like "a drill". This topic is a little complex.

How can I book a lesson with Liza?
@unsu-ravАй бұрын
I still find it confusing and not logical: an electrical circuit is powered by electricity (from the battery) but we call it electrical circuit not electric. The razor is also powered by electricity from the outlet, but it is an electric razor. Talking about potentials we say electric and chemicAL potentials , and when you hear 'chemical' potential thousands of times, your tongue will want to say electrical potential.
@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
When you use the word "electric", you imply that it works or it functions by using electricity. So; - when you say; "electric razor" it means that the razor works or functions by using electricity. When you use the word "electrical", you imply that it has something to do with electricity BUT it doesn't work or it doesn't function by using electricity So; When you say; "plug" or "power outlet" it means that those are pieces which are related to electricity BUT THEY DON'T WORK OR FUNCTION BY USING ELECTRICITY. I'm not an electrician but I hope I helped you and not confuse you.

@ So, please, enlighten me. What makes the wound different?
@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
@@winny4765 According to what Kevin said, apparently there's no difference, they're both synonyms so you can say, - He skinned his knee. Or. - He scraped his knee. If you know Spanish, the translations are; - He skinned his knee. = él se "DESPELLEJÓ" la rodilla. - He scraped his knee. = él se "RASPÓ" la rodilla. When you "skin", you remove your skin, When you "scrape", you remove your skin by hitting something hard. This could be the only difference but that's the way I see it. BUT KEVIN IMPLIED THAT BOTH VERBS OR WORDS ARE SYNONYMS. 😊👍. I forgot, just to give you an idea; - When you scrape a carrot against a scraper you get little pieces of carrot (this is the other meaning of "scrape". In spanish we say "raspar". Scrape = raspar. # I HOPE I HELPED YOU, INSTEAD OF GETTING YOU CONFUSED.
@winny4765Ай бұрын
@ synonym , that is relative. There is always a reason as to why two words do exist. Following your kind explanation I suppose that in one case you have a superficial erasion of the top layers of the skin where else in the other one the skin is inured so deeply that blood vessels are slightly torn. Anyway, it will hurt. I have a lot experience with these wounds😱 Thank you very much.
@fredylopez2477Ай бұрын
@@winny4765 Well I've got the exact difference in my mind, Kevin just said or implied that when speaking they can be used as synonyms and I don't doubt you might have that experience but I think that's got nothing to do with the fact of both terms being synonyms. And the other difference is that "scrape" has other meanings. I suggest you consult a dictionary or dictionaries and you'll see the real usage of those words and contexts that they can be used on. And you're very welcome, it was my pleasure.
