Been producing rnb and soul for years, recently got a set of Congas and a Bongo, that’s how I came across your channel. I’m indescribably grateful for the value you provide for people just starting out. Cheers to this ❤️🔥 Keep it going 💯

Great! I sometimes throw in some 6/8 Afro-Cuban rhythms when grooving the blues. :-)

Is there a video for congas showing how to solo over the slow blues pattern you showed?
@RhythmNotes Жыл бұрын
Not particularly. I have a video with conga solo ideas, but nothing specific to slow blues. … I have some ideas. I would treat the congas like a saxophone or guitar and consider the rhythms and melodies those instruments create during a solo.

I've found throwing in some Mongo Santamaria 6/8 afro blue style patterns creates interest. Not for slow tempo blues, that said, double time variations of 6/8 on the slow tunes works too

That’s an excellent idea!

Great video ...thx! What key do u suggest tuning a 10"/11" pair for blues?
@RhythmNotes Жыл бұрын
I generally choose something that works for the drums, and I make adjustments only when it sounds bad or I'm asked to by a music director or producer. To be more specific, C# tends to work with a lot of songs. But, like I said, 99 percent of the time, I do not tune to a specific key ... mostly because the drums sound good in different keys at different venues and in different levels of moisture in the air.

@Rhythm Notes Sorry...beginner here and I may not have expressed myself clearly. I have a 10 " and 11" so which would be the c# and what would I tune the other to. Thx for your patience.
@RhythmNotes Жыл бұрын
The 10” would be the C# and the 11” would be a G# below the C#

Excellent break down and sample tracks. Excellent!!!! Your conga was tuned to C4 and your tumba was tuned to G3. Right?
@RhythmNotes3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps. I tune them relatively so that it’s a fourth from low to high and sounds good with the key of the song. With more than two drums I pay more attention to stuff like that. My friend Chris is always on me about tuning and heads (because he’s right, I should pay more attention and be more consistent).
