This is a digital story for my Advanced Writing class. I chose to do mine about Conneaut Lake Park, a place that is very near and dear to me and my family (and I'm sure many others). Sorry that the voice quality isn't that great but hey, that's what you get from an $8 microphone.

Very good video Rachel, I went there from 1967 til 1973 to the Westinghouse employee picnics. Was there also in the mid '90's, wasn't quite the same then. All the pictures in the video are what I remember, very clean and colorful, and sooooo- much fun. Ahhh the memories. THANKS!

The first time I was at the park was a result of beng a camper at Camp-Lend-A-Hand that was established as a camp for crippled children. I was 8 or 9 & the camp would take us to the park, wheelchairs, crutches & legbraces, & let us ride everything til 5 or 6 in the evening, when we returned to the camp, which was on Andover Rd. I think the Easter Seals Society & the Shriner's made these annual arrangements . The last summer I went was 1969. My grandmother wouldn't let me go because I was entering my senior year in highschool & she wanted me to focus on college entry. I loved that park & am truly grateful it was a part of my childhood!! Now that I know it's been reopened I hope to visit with my grandchildren.

A noble and delightful video . I remember how beautiful the Park used to be . the flowers every where , all of the rides where fully operational . the place was spotless . it was hard to walk around as there were so many people there . I remember cars were allowed to drive all day long right through the Park . your right ! , as long as you have memories , it will never be forgotten . Ray in Pa.

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to give an update as it's been about 5 years since this video was originally posted. Conneaut Lake Park is back up and running and is generally doing a lot better today than it was at the time my digital story was created. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to watch this!

Awwww... I nearly cried just now. I didn't even know that it has been closed down. I always had the name wrong in my mind... "Storybook Forest" is what I had been calling it but, I went there as a little girl in the early 70s. All I could remember was the "Fairyland" places. It was so cool that over the years I've been thinking that I had only imagined I'd gone such a place. My mom asked me to find out where Conneaut Lake Park is and I clicked on your video. Thanks for this.

Conneaut is now back open and doing much better now! :) It has faced so much hardship it the past 12 years or so, but they have persevered and pushed through, and hopefully it is here to stay! :) Many of the classic rides are still operating, including Blue Streak!

Good work on this! I grew up going to Conneaut Lake Park, so the place is special to me. I did a story on the Park during my undergrad for a Writing For Publication class and continued it into an Advanced Writing class. Now I'm curious if we went to the same University since you mentioned the latter in your description!

Very nice....I grew up going to the park in the late 50's through the 70's before it was killed by charging admission to just walk around. My Dad was a lifeguard at the beach in the late 50's and early 60's. The best french fries on the planet were at the end of the arcade right across from the beach club. I played my first game of skee-ball there. Got the crap scared out of me on that rickety Wild Mouse...over and over and over. I still have my "rida-o-rama" ticket from a 5th grade field trip outing at the end of the schjool year. I live out of state and was back for a wedding a few years ago....I drove out to the park to show my kids but I hadn't heard about the fire that took the ballroom a few months before. Such a sad day. It was a ghost park. Thanks for the video and the story...it triggers several layers of good memories that can't be taken by fire or time.

A good memory.... I remember back in the 60's when we had Senior Day at our High School. We would go in groups to the Park. One of the last memories of High School before graduation. I also went with my family, years later. I remember the Mill Picnics and all the good noises and smells of food. Over the years, from my home an hour away, I read and heard how the park got raped and burned. It was poor planners and arsonists that drew an era to the level it is now. I hope someone has the integrity to do what is right and at that time... just maybe... there might be life breathed back into it. As it stands... memories are what many of us have. It is the worst thing but.... it is also a good thing. It is now in the hands of the Legal Eagles and the Courts. Candy, corndogs, Carnies and the Beach Club... went great with rides that caused our bodies to scream with thrill and sometimes... caused a bad stomach. And.. THAT was fun.

This is really good thank you I just subscribed. I live two miles from there and I used to work there. Back in the day my great-uncle was the chief of police over there and in the winter they would do the maintenance work so was a year-round job.

well it's not what it used to be cause a lot of rides were taken down, such as toboggan, which is now laying across the street, the wild mouse, the pirate ship, the Ali babba, the yoyo, and the octopus. While others such as the witches stew, is shut down. the street full of colorful buildings and games are not colorful and there are only 2 games up. the rest of the food courts and games are all closed. there is no ballroom, and there is now a water park. yes it's restored, but it's falling apart. the only thing tat keeps it going is the small amount of people that go and the 13 levels of horror. I remember going there when I was little and being too small to ride the blue streak so I watched my dad go on, who a has also been going when he was a kid, when everything was great. I remember riding all the kiddie rides. wow so much memories

I have a question. In 1991, I had a job interview for the park. I asked the lady about Fairyland Forest and what happened to it. She said "pieces were auctioned off" and some of it is in Kiddie land. 20 some years ago. Did it burn down just like other parts of the park? I saw a clip in this video of like a train , train tracks burnt. It looks familiar. thanks.
