After visiting Waldameer we were curious about the state of the New Conneaut Lake Park since it has been a few years since we visited. We knew that the classic Blue Streak has been removed but didn't know if the kids attractions were running, if there were new snack bars, etc...
Well when we arrived the entire area was fenced off but still decided to walk around and see if we could take a few photos Well to our surprise the one gate was open.
We talked to a few people who told us that as long as you don't drive in, you are welcome to walk in and explore. That was all the permission we needed so sit back and enjoy a complete walkthrough of the current state of the New Conneaut Lake Park as of July 2023.

This was sad to watch. No wonder the hotel operator is suing the current owner. It seems clear he has no real intention of reviving the park since he ripped out anything that might have drawn people in. It looks like he's just biding his time until he can legally repurpose the site.

For summer and October fest! I haven’t been up there in forever since it’s changed! And got torn down. But I will be up there tomorrow all day/night for the fall fest and haunted houses I’m so excited for it nice lil drive up and enjoy the scenery!

The Blue Streak was one of only two remaining Masterpiece wooden coasters designed by one of the all time Coaster Masters, Eddie Vettel. Not just the amazing airtime but his twisted drops and sharp cutbacks through the trees and the coaster structure when he didn't have to, and that great last hop into the station. Gone forever, Stolen from us. His last coaster, the Cyclone, resides at Lakeside Amusement Park outside of Denver, and is a unique Twister/Out and Back hybrid. Like the Blue Streak (was), it is a one-of-a-kind work of Thrill-Art that cannot be replaced. There's NO EXCUSE for not preserving the Blue Streak . . . or for having SCRAPS BURNED NEAR A DRY GREASED WOODEN COASTER. Burn down priceless Americana and our memories for what? To sell cheap plastic condos at a place that USED to have something special about it? NO thanks.

Thanks for watching and we got to admit, this was a tough video to make and was really a spur of the moment. We spent the day at Waldameer and I have family in that area so we left Waldameer early to see what was gong on there. Going into it, we expected a "fair" setting. A few rides, grab dinner at the hotdog stand, etc... We did not expect what we saw. I was surprised we were able to walk into the property but we have to agree with everything you said. And to see what Gene Staple has done with Martin's Fantasy Island (now Niagara Amusement Park) and Clementon Park, it is quite a bummer seeing this piece of land become what it is.

I was a ride operator here back in the late 70's. It is a shame they ran this park into the hole. The park I once knew and worked at is gone. The midway is completely gone. If you took a right after the Devil's Den, that was the midway and it stretched all the way to the lake. When I worked there, the rides were wild mouse (mini two seater coaster), hell hole, round up, airplanes, devil's den and another haunted house but cannot remember name. There was also the blue streak, spider, ultimate trip (scrambler inside a building with strobe lights), ferris wheel, double ferris wheel, bumper cars, train ride, slide, merry-go-round and I know I am forgetting a few. They even had a boat ride around a stream that went around a loop with wildlife displays around the loop. You entered it between the coaster and merry-go-round. I never worked in kiddie land so not sure what was all in there. Now it looks like a vacant field with a few rides here and there. The mini golf coarse use to be next to open area in front of hotel. So that was moved. I know at the end of your video is actually the front of park where you use to enter. When I worked there, the first rides were the train and blue streak on the right and the ferris wheel and slide on the left.

I have such great memories of this park from the late 70's to mid-80's. I too remember the train, Blue Streak and the Carousel on the right as you entered the park. The Ferris Wheel, slide, Dracula's Cave, Tumble Bug, Tilt-A-Whirl, Hell Hole and Dodge-Em's were on the left. The Round-Up and Wild Mouse were behind the Hell Hole. Across from the Wild Mouse there were Flying Scooters that was replaced with a Yo-Yo. The had The Whip next to that, then the Midway loaded with food stations and games. The Devil's Den was always fun. I think the Spider and the Trabant were next to the Devil's Den and across from that was Kiddieland, but I never went in there other than to see the Pony Track. The Ultimate Trip was just awesome and then towards the end of the glory years, down by the lake there was the Paratrooper, Sea Dragon, Sky Wheel and for a season or two they had a Ranger. Everything went downhill after the Flynn Fiasco and then the final insult was the intentional burning of the Blue Streak a few years ago. Was sad to see it all come to an end.

In the 1970’s the park was huge and fun its very sad what has happened to the park. I think there was a skyline ride from one end of park to the other end. I remember having lunch in the pavilion on the lake and the little beach area. There was one summer we did go to Conneaut Lake Park it was when King’s Lake opened in Kingsville Ohio and 5 minutes away. King’s Lake was a black top lake, childhood memories lol.

@@TheCloverQueenDQ This park never had a skyline. I think Waldameer in Erie had one. Haha. I know Kings Lake well. It was in Kingsvile, Ohio right across from the school. It is funny cuz I lived a few houses from it. I grew up with one of the boys and remember when they built it. I was a big failure. I do not think it lasted more then a few years. Now houses are there. The blacktop was to hot and I think that was the issue. I know they had swings and slides in the water.

The state of this place makes me so mad. No, the park was not in good shape, but this new owner should never have been let near the park. Insurance fraud to get rid of Blue Streak with the fire, all so this oark can rot and he can justify building the condos he wants. Disgusting behavior. If someone who actually cared about the industry had picked the park up (think Gene Staples esque, not that he'd actually do it with his hands full, but an example nonetheless), this park could have made a great comeback. Silver Comet was in far worse shape when NAP was refurbed, Blue Streak could have been retracked/painted. I hope if this idiot actually gets what he wants that he at least sells off what few rides remain. Losing Blue Streak and Devil's Den for condo development would be completely unforgivable.

I agree with most of your comments. The only thing is there was a lot of time for someone else to step up and buy it before he got involved. The community did show up but when the trust had the property, it just wasn't enough to save the park. I hope Knoebels or Kennywood picks up the Devils Den and can save that unique ride. The building to the far left of “The Devil’s Den” (later changed to Dr. Moriarity’s Wild Ride), used to house the park’s HR Department. Back then, I never imagined that I would be working there. It was a fun experience. I was a ride operator my first summer. The 2nd summer I was there, I was an assistant ride supervisor, basically, I gave the ride operators their daily breaks. Back then, we had about 10 or so main attraction rides and about 7 or 8 Kiddieland rides.

When you first walked in and crossed the grass that was Kiddieland. Very empty now. Past the jeeps, there was pony rides. There use to be baby tilt a whirl, boats in a moat, bumpy caterpillar, little dipper just smaller version of blue streak. Next to that were the swings and another rope type ride. Where the crayons were there was a bathroom that caught fire... round thing you thought was arcade was the merry go round. Race track new. Was a building there gift shop and other rides next to it. Down the midway... blue streak!!! *caught fire* across from that use to be turtles and another spin ride.. next to where the turtles that building you said was restrooms... it was that but also where you entered to go to water attraction. There were 2 big water slides, lazy river and kiddie pool. Looks like they took train out that went around the golf.. and if you continued up past the shell looking ride that was paratroopers, next to that was the sail boats, across the walk way was that tilt a whirl and a small ferris wheel. The entrance of the park was up there too. If you went back down the midway where you didn't walk.. there use to be arcade on left, games on right, a ride in a building, food stand, stage area to right in field. Beach and beach club *also that caught fire*. This place use to be a cute little park. I grew up across the lake and looking out and not seeing what use to be there is vary heart breaking.

I continued to go even as an adult with my own kids. This guy Todd bought the park under false pretenses, claiming something he never planned on doing to gain support of the community so nobody contested the sale. Brought in a few newer rides for a season, then proceeded to remove parts of the park, classic rides, Midway games, selling others, even tried to sell the carousel, etc. deeming them to far gone to repair. Then the convenient fire on the Blue streak roller coaster, giving him a excuse to tear it down. He never had any intention to revitalize the park. A sad end to a piece of history.

If he had been honest about his intentions from the start, I might still respect him, but he has been disingenuous and misleading from day one. The red building housed a beautiful antique carousel full of valuable hand-carved carousel horses and animals. There was a functioning calliope. There was a small water park with two large slides, dressing rooms, and a lazy river. There was still a ferris wheel, flying scooters, train, music express, yo yo swings, the trabant, tumble bug, not to mention a pretty full kiddie land in the early 2000s. I know this park would have been a money pit to restore, but it was up and running not that long ago, if a little shabby. Once again, the current owner has not been forthcoming with his intentions from the start and has resorted to some questionable tactics to bring the park to it's current sad state.

I worked maintenance at CLP in the 70s. That Tilt-A-Whirl is in amazingly good shape. I suspect though that what was considered safe 50 years ago would not pass a state inspection now. In Devil's Den, the cars were routinely stored just on the inside of the entrance and exit. They are most likely still there. What remains of the park is actually far more than most of the gripers claim.

I visited this park several times near the end of the old ownerships. It was slowly going down hill. Unfortunately the park is not in a good location to attract enough customers to support it. It would take an owner willing to invest in many new rides as well as constructing a new larger roller coaster to attract bigger crowds. This new owner does not want to operate a proper amusement park. He most likely wants to redevelop it for vacation homes and condos and may provide some minimal entertainment attractions that are not too expensive to operate. This video shows that this is no longer a functioning park but jut a few things left to say there still is a park. I feel only our memories will keep the history of this park alive.

Spent alot of time at this park. we use to get season passes and camp across the street at camper land then just walk back and forth. Around 2010. They had a few bit of rides then i think there was like 14 or 15 rides, was right befor the downfall of the place. They have had a few different fires that have happend in the building that realy hurt them. Had a lot of fun. Yah its kinda sad to seeing it so run down but, time gose on. Less i got to take my son one time and he loved the place, they have a lot of fun kid rides there mostly all gone now. This was in 2019 when i took him. But he still loved it. He ask about the park all the time now. This park made him love amusment parks. We got season passes for dellgrosso park now reminds me alot of this place just a small down home family park. Lol

Beside the little Dipper rollercoaster used to be little kids frees wheel 🛞 which was my 2 favorite ride because on the top of the frees wheel 🛞 that I can see train engine that used to come to conneaunt lake Park and now became pony ride. My first favorite kids rollercoaster little Dipper. Now I found out what happened to the train engine why it doesn't come to conneaunt lake Park. I came across train segments on trains. The front end of the train engine blew up luckily the engineer and the fireman wasn't seriously hurt or killed when it blew up. Plus cost way way too much money to repair it so that's is why the train doesn't come to conneaunt lake Park. Used to have Dracula cove ride the wild mouse ride and jungle cruise ride also the fun house also too double frees wheel water coaster and the bumper boats too. Ohh yeah slide that you ride using like a bag that's takes you down before it got replaced by the water park. Plus their is other ride I can't think of the name of it. But it ride that was on Brady bunch where Alice went on the ride trying to find Mr Brady plans that marchie and Jane lost so while looking for it. If you can find that segment on the Brady bunch then you know what ride I was talking about okay. Just sad the park is gone and so to be camping grounds but the good news I found the phone number so I will call and check into it okay. Sorry don't agree with the Bluestreak. It was a great coaster and was the reason many who came here. He destroyed most everything that people traveled to Conneaut Lake. His new ideas have failed. He threw all that cared about the park out so he could destroy it. Yes it needed work but no need to destroy all the historical aspects. All those rides are not operable as he has let them sit in the elements ever since he took over the park. Not everyone drinks alcohol and that has been the only thing he seems to promote.

Don't get me wrong, seeing Devil's Den in the shape it is it brutal. My thoughts on Blue Streak us simple. From a business aspect it was more a 50/50 because of the cost to get it back up to speed. If you are me or someone like Gene Staples, you invest in it. If you are a investment banker who just looks at the bottom line, it could go either way. If the community came out and supported the park, he would have never been able to buy it. For me the current state is brutal. Either invest and bring the park back or sell off everything. Devil's Den would be bought by a Knoebels, Niagara, etc.. and refurbished. Laying it out to rot is the worse. Anyway thanks for watching and the comments. Greatly appreciated

@@125RollerCoaster Blue Streak was in the middle of a massive refurbishment when it was torn down. At the time of purchase it had a brand new lift hill and the train had all new wheels that were donated by ACE. It needed new ditches dug for water control and needed a few footers replaced but overall was in the best shape it was for decades at the time it was torn down. At the end of the day the new guy doesn't know how to run a park so he got ride of most of the permanent rides to allow a carnival company to set rides up (The Tilt and the Spider for example). He had no intention to invest money into the pre-existing attractions, thus why devils den sprung a leak in the roof and he's letting it rot.

Thanks for watching it is ashame what happened to this little park. My gut is telling me that it will slowly fade away. The new looking flat ride in the video gives me a little hope but from what we have learned from this new owner, it doesn't seem like he has the money or will to do anything and with the way he has treated the community, even if he did try to bring it back, I think the ill will he has created will just not have the community support it.
