I wish this was around three years ago. Excellent video and good to know you have others that take deep dives. My favorite aspect was the David Attenborough-style voice overs. It appeals to me as an older gamer. Keep up the good work.

Yes, I wish my videos were around three years ago as they would have been the sort of stuff I would have found helpful :) But you know, it is what it is, at least we are now all marching towards sim racing nirvana :) Thank you for the David Attenborough comment, not the first time I have heard this, but makes me smile whenever I do. Also, I have been compared to narrator in the Stanley Parable, although personally I think I sound more like a slightly downgraded Danny Dyer. :) Keep on racing my fellow older gamer, and I hope to see you on track :)

Great video! I just wish Meta would add a feature that already boots the Quest into Link mode so I can just start a race with my mouse instead of having to navigate so many menus with the controllers
@OlderGamersPerspective4 ай бұрын
There is a menu option in the headset that can be toggled on to auto connect the headset to the Void when a cable is detected, but it's only as far as the void, not the PC monitor or a steam type overlay. But yeah, your idea would be neat. Sadly meta don't seem very active on pc connect stuff as they seem to favour the standalone stuff.

Another excellent video which I will definitely find useful once I can get back to sim racing. Only small gripe is that you didn’t explain where to find the debug too (although I seem to remember you did state how to find it in another vid but would have been useful here). Repetition especially for us older gamers can be a good thing. 😂

A good idea, that's one that should have been in there. Thank you for the feedback, and I hope you get back into sim racing soon. Lots of cool stuff happening at the moment.

Hi mate, really enjoying your videos. Do you think you could do one showing how you capture/stream your VR gameplay? I've tried using OBS and an OpenXR plugin, and whilst it works, the viewpoint off centre and usually pointed too far down into the vehicle cockpit. Just curious how you capture footage. Thanks
@OlderGamersPerspective5 ай бұрын
That's a good idea. I use OBS, and I also use the direct recording in the headset, although that does sometimes appear off centre, mostly I think because the headset can only record one eye or the other. But I can put together a tutorial and show how I get the footage I get.
@OlderGamersPerspective5 ай бұрын
But just to be clear. Which headset and which SIM are you trying to capture?
@ScarySquirrel5 ай бұрын
yeah that was the issue I found, I could only pick one eye. I'm using a Quest 3 and playing iRacing 👍🏻

Hi there. Excelent video. I’m having a problem with my Quest 3 and iRacing. Meta 3 is connected trough the VR Cable Link but when I start any racing it doesn’t show the menu to choose oculus. Do you know what’s is happening here ? Thank you such much

Hi, take a look at recent video of mine - from the time I have marked (about five minutes in) and I show there some of the option menus in the iRacing UI that you might have set incorrectly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIusfJpvlNSHbJYfeature=shared&t=331 Let me know if this helps.

There is an issue with connecting to practice/race in iRacing OpenXR when loading is stuck on 5%. To resolve this you need to launch iRacing as admin, but then all other apps that are being used with iRacing such as irFFB, Stream deck (if used as button box) etc must also run in admin mode otherwise they can't connect to the program with a superior access level.
@OlderGamersPerspective5 ай бұрын
Good to know, thank you. I'll look out for the issue.

Do you need a pc to play WRC VR om Meta quest 3s with a wheel setup. Or can you install a game on your MQ3 and connect the wheel setup to the MQ3
@OlderGamersPerspectiveАй бұрын
Far as I know, you can only use WRC on the PC and then the Quest 3 connected to the PC.Never used WRC myself, but the reports I've heard about VR performance have been good.

If connecting to a motherboard, is the GPU involved in the process? Or is this just using the CPU graphics processor?
@OlderGamersPerspectiveАй бұрын
The GPU is rendering the results of what's going on in the game or sim you are using, and compressing that to send via the USB cable to your headset, where it's decompressed and shown on the display. That what you need to know?
@JoaoLopes-1982Ай бұрын
@@OlderGamersPerspective it's exactly what I needed to know, thanks! It just seems so over-complicated... Are there any VR headsets with a double cable (one displayport for image and an USB for movement and other data)?
@OlderGamersPerspectiveАй бұрын
@@JoaoLopes-1982 VR is overcomplicated, I think mostly because it's still finding it's way and the makers can't decide which way to go, standalone with USB, or DP cable. It's an issue that in my opinion is holding back the VR industry. The last VR headset that I owned was the Quest Rift (not the S), and that had it's own issues, but it did have a DP cable, although this tended to be the weak point if you were doing standing games, for sitting, it was fine, and I used it for years, with sim racing and sim flying and Elite Dangerous. Hours spent in ED! So yeah, VR is just a bit to complex at the moment, and with the quest needing the Meta App, the Oculus Debug tool, and sometimes the OPenXR toolkit, it is a bit of a brain exploder at times. Although, when you get it working okay, it's the best experience ever. The fact that it is just the best computer gaming experience I have ever had, since starting out with PC games in the early 90's, is the reason I stick with it. But yeah, sometimes, it is like hitting your head on a brick wall... Lovely when you stop :) There are headsets out there now with DP cables, and hopefully more to come, but most are twice the price of the Quest 3, and other have poor reviews. Do a search on KZbin and you will see what I mean. Be interesting to see what the supposed VR headset from Steam will look like. If it has pancake lenses, a DP cable, and it's under a grand, it might be worth looking at. Maybe....

This process is wearing me down mentally. Who comes up with this 👀
@OlderGamersPerspective2 ай бұрын
Yeah I know. I feel your pain, I really do. It takes me back to the days of loading DOS so we could load windows 3.1 so we could load a program. However, the good news is, you do get used to it. Eventually...

I think if you do have a dedicated Wifi 6e router I'd recommend using that with Virtual Desktop. The reason is the Meta software kinda sucks, and Virtual Desktop is highly optimized to squeeze every bit of performance out of both your headset and pc. Meta used to have a nice home environment instead of the gray void. Not sure why they changed it, the current offering is dreary.
@OlderGamersPerspective2 ай бұрын
It's something I have looked at a few times, but so far I've not found a 6e router that is recommended for the Quest 3 AND is within my budget. All the recommended ones seem to be a very high price. What would you say is the best bet right now? I agree with the home environment being taken away was a negative move by Meta. They said they pulled it for performance reasons, yet on the standalone, there is a home environment that is, in my opinion, vastly inferior to the one I used to see when using my old Oculus rift. So, not much progress there. Sometimes I feel the PCVR market is just something that Meta is not interested in, and the fact that the Meta App hasn't seen any meaningful updates (just ones connected to the updates on the Quest 3) seems to underline this point.
@AKCobra11202 ай бұрын
@@OlderGamersPerspective I can't really say what the best is since I've only tried the one, but I use a TP-Link AXE4500 which is a pretty low end one and it works great. The only problem I've had is my Quest 3 would occasionally drop the wifi and take forever to reconnect (like 5 minutes). I think that's a Quest issue though. It has improved, and as a work around I reboot the quest before I start a session, it's never disco'd me when I do this. Latency hovers around 5-6 in VD. Line of site is crucial though, 6e sucks at going through walls.

@@AKCobra1120 Thank you for the advice - I am seeing the TP-Link Archer AXE75 when searching for the one you recommend. That any good?
