Connecting a name to an ornament using Union (not Weld)

A common mistake people make is trying to "Weld" a name to an ornament, causing the name to disappear. In this quick clip I explain how to use Boolean Union to do this, and show why weld (or union) can fail if the setup isn't right.

I can’t get this feature to work for text at all no matter how much it overlaps! I connect a dog just fine but nope no text will weld or boonlean they won’t even highlight with text. The text is joined I’m at a loss

You likely have more than one object - if you didn't create the text in LightBurn it would need to be grouped first before using the Boolean tools. Booleans require exactly two objects to work with, either simple shapes or groups of shapes, and all the shapes have to be closed.

It’s a font I downloaded. LightBurn shows whatever fonts you have installed on your computer.

I can't get the boolean options to appear. They are grayed out on the side bar as well as under tools

Do you have multiple object selected? If not they will show as grayed out.

Does the name have to be script to get cut out or can I use Algerian script

You can use any font you like. A script font will usually be easier, since all the letters will connect together.

Hi , can you please tell me how to turn on "Boolean Union of Two Shapes " functions? It's not highlighted. Even ven I highlight my project than Boolean union doesn't work but it was working before so maybe I turned it off somehow. Can you help please? Thanks

You can't 'turn it off' - The buttons are enabled when the shapes you have selected can be used with the Boolean functions, so if they are not enabled, it means you have either not selected only two shapes (or groups), or that some of the shapes in your selection are not closed, continuous loops.

@@lightburnsoftware7189 I don't know but I tried everything. Even just use only 2 letters and play with them. Only option that is highlighted and works is that icon above (weld all selected shapes together) I spent hours on it and still didn't move on
