Very nice you made a video with the same combo, because the settings can be a little bit complicated at the beginning. Only thing im still confused about is HDR, how does it works exacly on the xbox series x, because at that check-mark interface at 8:10 its not supporting...

@@MrHeuveltje Thank you 🙏🏾 for watching my video. When you enable FreeSync on the G7, you cannot enable the HDR settings on the Series X at the same time. That’s a Samsung issue, and hopefully comes out with a firmware update to fix that. If you disable the FreeSync, you will see that you can select HDR through Series X. I know it’s confusing at first but let me know if you have any more questions.

Do you think it would be better to down scale the G7 to 4k 60 hz for Series X games that max out at 60fps? I believe VRR and freesync would have to be turned off, but HDR still works... so torn on whether 1440p 120hz or 4k 60hz.

It depends on the game. Most next-gen games that are out are 4K 60hz. I only use 1440p 120hz if the game has that option. If not, I would go back to the 4K 60hz. I hope that helps 😁 thanks for watching my video.

I moved to a new apartment recently and re set up my desk and monitor and stuff, for some reason I accidentally switched my free sync off one day I don’t remember doing it but I’ve noticed a blurry line moving from top to bottom of my screen lately. It’s not constant just randomly happens but happens every session. I went into settings and that’s when I noticed my free sync was off. So I just reverted my settings back to the ones in this video and hoping it stops!

Thank you 🙏🏾 before I purchased this monitor, I had the same hesitation because of the curved. After seeing the great reviews and staring at the store, I went ahead and just purchased it. I knew if I didn’t like it, I would only return it. However, once I assembled everything, I have no issues whatsoever with it be curved. In my opinion, it makes the monitor more immersive. I hope that helps? I would suggest try it and see that you like it. If not, just return it 😁

When you buy the monitor, look to see if you have the latest firmware. You can find the latest firmware here www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/odyssey-gaming-monitor-g7-series . Go to the link, and you should compare if you have the latest firmware or not. If not, you would download the file and extract the file into a USB thumb drive. Make sure that the thumb drive is 2.0. Once downloaded, insert that drive into the USB port. Once inserted, go to the monitor settings and click on software. The software prompt screen will recognize the latest firmware update and select yes to download. I hope that helps 😁 thanks for watching my video.

I update the monitor through a usb 2.0 thumb drive. I download the update on Samsung website. After the update, I connected my Series X through HDMI.

As promised, here are my settings for the G7. Black Equalizer 13. Picture Settings Brightness: 53. Contrast: 75. Sharpness 56. In the color settings, Red 49: Green 50: Blue 50: Color Tone Custom: Gamma Mode 1. Yes, you can choose that option. However, you won't be able to get 1440p @120. It will only display 1440- @60.

I think right now the only way you can keep hdr is if you have a hdmi 2.1 t.v. OR monitor aka you need to have a tv or monitor capable of 4k 120Hz if u use 1440p it disables hdr

For now the monitor is not worth it for the PS5 because the PS5 doesn’t have a 1440p setting at this time. The monitor does except a 4K signal but it converts to 1440p @60. If you want to play higher than 60, the PS5 will knock it down to 1080p @120. Now, if you’re using this monitor for PC gaming or Xbox Series X, this monitor is a definite buy.

I don’t know if you know this but a lot of monitors that run 1440p and 120hz are having compatibility issues with the next gen consoles. I just purchased the Dell S2719DGF and everytime I try to get 1440 and 120 my Xbox says it doesn’t support it and makes me switch to either 1080p 120hz, or 1440p and 60hz. I’m hoping that Microsoft will fix this issue and allow all monitors capable of running 1440p and 120hz to be compatible with their software. If not I may have to return my monitor and buy this instead

No issues playing the Xbox Series X with the Samsung G7 1440p @120hz. The only time I would have a problem is only the PS5 because it doesn’t have 1440p in the display settings.

@@Yo-HoLD-mY-WeeD I have the Astro a50s as well. You need to update the base station on your PC or Mac. Once it's updated, the only thing that you need to plug up is to the USB port of the Xbox to Astro base station. Please let me know if that works out for you :)

I have the Gen 3 version. The audio is the same, but I have noticed that I get many more connection dropouts with the audio. I don’t know if it might be my headset, firmware update, or something else. I had the Astro Headset since 2014. For the Samsung, they have fixed the flickering issue for Nvidia users, and also, they added an extra setting for VRR. Yes, you download the latest firmware update on the Samsung site using a Mac. The monitor doesn’t have built-in speakers. You would have to use the audio jack to plug it into an external speaker.

I haven’t tried out the zowie for cod. I have heard really good things about that monitor. I think for the price zowie all the way!! The only thing that is missing is that the zowie is a 1080p and the blacks doesn’t match the G7. Either way, you can’t go wrong with either monitor. I hope this helps. The monitor can be used for a Mac as well. You can also download the firmware update on an iMac and extract the file on a USB thumb drive.

That’s crazy. So i used my hdmi cable and the monitor (I guess) didn’t detect it so I wasn’t able to enable free sync which is odd. Ik the G7 and the G9 have very similar features

@@arinellis1643 That's crazy!!! I heard that people were running into G9 when it was released but to hear that the HDMI port doesn't work is crazy. Did you try switching the HDMI with another one? How about connecting that monitor to another device via HDMI port just test all options. I find it hard to believe that Samsung would mess up the HDMI port on G9!!! The last resort is to, unfortunately, call Samsung to see if they can do a diagnostic over the phone.

Hey man . I have the same set up and is amazing on cold war but I seem to get some stutter on warzone Quite badly in dark areas . Do you have the same issue ? If not do you know how I could fix this ? . I'm on the latest firmware and moniter and xbox display 1440p at 120hz . Thanks

I haven't run into that issue with the cold war as of yet. I believe it might be the game and not the monitor or system. Call of Duty Cold War just came out with a new update with the season pass update and some fixes. Maybe give it a try and see what happens. Did you try any other Series X games that have 120hz? I’m curious to know if you’re only experiencing with that game only or any game at 1440p 120hz. Please keep me updated.

I’ve updated the latest firmware (version 1014.1) and it’s still not allowing me to do 1440p @ 120hz. I’ve restarted the monitor and the Xbox. It’s not giving me an option for 50hz, 24hz, or variable refresh rate or any of the options on the monitor or on the Xbox that are shown. It’s getting frustrating and idk what else to do. No, the settings are different on the PS5 the system doesn’t have an option to enable VRR. Also, the PS5 doesn’t have 1440p option. You will only have 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 2160p. To enable the 120, you have to choose performance option in the settings to enable it. For G7 monitor you can go up to 1080p 120hz and accept 4K 60 but it will covert down to 1440p 60hz.

Kind of a random question but does 4k (down scaled to 1440p) with HDR at 60hz look very similar to actual 4k? I’m upgrading to this monitor from another Samsung monitor that does only proper 4k at 60hz

With a smaller monitor 32inch or lower yes, I don’t see the difference between 4K and 1440p. Anything above 32 I would go with a 4K screen. I hope that help 😁

@@coreyweaver9546 Yes you should be able to check 4K in the Xbox settings and HDR. My personal preference, I don't care for HDR on this monitor but some people they may like it. But once you disable FreeSync you should be able to check off 4K and HDR in the Xbox settings.

32" would be the highest you can go with the G7. The picture doesn't stretch with the G7 compared to the G9. The only reason I went 27'' is because of what I can fit in my room and also if I go bigger on a 1440p display, I don't want the image to look soft.

Hey dude, can you help me out ? I've followed your steps, xbox settings, resolution 1440p and 120Hz, also allow variable refresh rate ticked and allow 4k unticked, thats xbox settings Monitor settings are Free sync On and VRR control on, I also changed my picture setting to FPS as its better in my eyes My question is, does that sound all good to you? Because when I play cold war and bring up the information in support, my Hz keeps bouncing from anywhere from 80Hz to 115Hz it never stays at a solid 120Hz like yours? Or is it meant to bounce like that? Any reply would be great :) don't think I'm missing a setting

No, those settings are still good for Xbox Series X. I haven't tried the FPS picture settings but that has nothing to do with the HZ. The bounce will happen from time to time because of the game and if your playing multi-player. I know that COD constantly does updates and sometimes it may affect the FPS.

I think it’s a setting in your Xbox Series X. In the General TV & display options, select 4K details. Do you happen to know what’s displaying? It should show that playing games, the monitor supports 1440p at 120fps. It doesn’t show that make sure that in your monitor settings, FreeSync is enabled. Also, make sure the VRR control is on. The Xbox should have a drop-down box with 1440p as a selection.

Found the problem the hdmi that comes with the series s doesn’t support 1440p 120hz instead it only supports 1080p on 60hz soo I changed my hdmi cable and put a high speed that upscales up to 4k now i have 1440p and 120hz with freesync on and VRR

The g7 is actually wasted on a xbox series x, i mean 240hz on a console, are u serious ? i think is much worth take a g5 odyssey, still 1440p resolution, 144hz (that is enough for a new gen of console) and it cost less, now it cost 239 euros for the black friday, i have a series x so... should i buy it ?

I didn’t buy the G7 for the consoles. I purchased this monitor for PC gaming and for work. I’m just giving people different alternatives to play their next-gen consoles if they already have the G7. I haven’t reviewed the G5. However, Bijan has reviewed it, and here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpi2n4J3qKaSo7s. He said that if you’re just a casual gaming that really don’t care about the response time or some media consumption this that monitor maybe the one for you.

For the Xbox Series X VRR have to be turned on and FreeSync enabled to play 120. For the PS5, you would disable FreeSync to play 120 at 1080p only! PS5 doesn’t have 1440p option.
