I really appreciate your two videos that I’ve just watched. A real life, mom telling how she truly feels. I’ve homeschooled my kids one of them graduated last year. Another one is set to graduate this year, but she needs more. I just went through a divorce, and I have to work full-time, so she needs a teacher. But she has a lot of anxiety and putting her in public school for her last year would be detrimental. Thank you for posting this.

Thank you again for your honest insight and perspective!

Hey! Thanks for reaching out. That’s so exciting I love all of the teachers we have encountered so far in our journey. They are all awesome. I think the learning curve was mostly just the tech part of it all and figuring out where their schedules were, and knowing how to access their live lessons And gradebook I went through all of the learning coach training and was still quite lost our first year but after that we got it all figured out I think also they did some adjusting since then and don’t send out physical school books. It’s all online so that makes it easier because we were struggling to figure out where in the textbook things were that were in the lesson and that’s no longer an issue but otherwise, I think that’s about it. Best of luck! Hope you get the job!

Well, it’s public school and is common core based, soooo nothing crazy like teaching there are no genders and such, but yes, evolution and some wizardry in certain stories. My daughter is aware of right from wrong and it’s helpful for her to see what the world looks like so she can combat the crazy and knows how to love people but walk in Truth. It’s not like public school though as far as the increased sensitivity to accept that God didn’t create more than two genders and the gender your born is the gender God intended you to be…He didn’t make any mistakes. Also, there’s not all the political crap to fight over which is nice. Some teachers have been found to be shoving their personal opinions onto students here but that’s been going on forever.

Yeah, see, we can't do 7 hours per day just for attendance. We live life on the move so there are days when he only has time to log in. We can catch up on missed work but I can't be bothered with truancy police showing up just because he wasn't sitting in front of a computer all day. Unfortunately, he's not doing well in the online school he's in; I feel like they are teaching him advanced things and skipping important, age appropriate things. What good is breaking down parts of a story if he doesn't know how to spell?
@KathrynMay3 жыл бұрын
I get it. If you use connections they require 7 hours of school work each day, not in front of the computer the entire time but doing enrichment things such as baking or hikes, etc. I can't imagine how parents are coping who aren't use to homeschooling as this COVID thing has messed with so much. You could give it a shot!
@DIYNextDoor3 жыл бұрын
This is exactly our situation. Our son is competitive junior tennis player and we did remote schooling during covid (which in our area was great since he was able to have weekly assigned amout of work and he could do as many hours a day as he needed to finish it all. Sometimes he finished the week work in 3 days, then he logged in the next two days for just practice apps or reading). Being present 7 hrs is not working for us since he is spending total of 4 hrs on the court each day. Glad I heard this before enrolling him! Thank you!
@DIYNextDoor3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for rhis in-dept explanation. We have done remote schooling theough Covid and considering homeschooling now There is one thing I am very concerned about - my son is a competitive junior tennis player. We want to homeschool him so he has enough time to spend on the court every day. Hearing that they require students to be present 7 hrs a day is too much for hos schedule. So there is no way to finish assigned work for the day earlier (let’s say in 4 hrs) and log out for the day? Thank you in advance for the reply! 😊
@KathrynMay3 жыл бұрын
Hey there thank you for reaching out! Yes I have homeschooled for a long time and find that seven hours sitting in front of a computer just doesn’t work. She usually finishes all of her work in 3 to 4 hours and we do other things the rest of the time. Things like recreational sports just as you’re talking about does count. Also learning how to cook, keeping a budget, so many other things count. As long as they are getting the work done they need to I always count seven hours in the attendance because I know we’re doing way more than that. I believe living life is a learning. She’s not sitting in front of a TV or playing video games all day.

@@KathrynMay thank you so much for your reply! That is great to hear! He is busy day dreaming about power rangers and army guys rather than listening to his teacher. He literally comes home telling me about all the power ranger things he thinks about at school. He has really fallen behind, but idk if full on homeschooling would be the best option for him.
@KathrynMay2 жыл бұрын
It’s not an option to be done with traditional in school. It is free. You can call and check with them. How old is your son? Mine is 19 now but when he was in the 5th grade he was deemed a “day dreamer” and it was because he was bored and needed stimulation. Most boys learn better moving around and working with their hands and minds at the same time. Like playing with play doe while reading and standing up at the same time. Or whatever works for them. I took my children out of school and started traditional homeschool while he was in the 7th grade and he began to flourish! He’s in college now and doing great. Day dreamers are creatives and need extra ways to stimulate their brains.

The lessons are recorded and they do ask that you come live. They do have electives and it is semi-self paced, but you do have to have things done within a certain timeframe. How does the scheduling work? I heard you say 7 hours a day which I’m not super impressed with, but do you get to choose the days? Does it have to be 5 days a week each week? Do you get to choose when your breaks are? We travel for a living, so we typically do our homeschool all year long because we take anywhere from 2-5 day breaks when we are relocating. Would this be an option or is it a strict typical public school schedule?
@KathrynMay3 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s very flexible. Sometimes she does her work in the evening or if there’s an off day during the week she just does it on Saturday. They do ask you to be available five days a week but it doesn’t have to be all weekdays. I would suggest reaching out to the actual school and sharing your concerns and hearing from them. It is not like a strict public school now. I homeschooled before I use this program and we need flexibility. It is great for someone who travels because the Internet goes everywhere. And the seven hours a day Usually ends up being more like four hours on the computer and then she does other stuff like cooking and wife which also counts towards school hours

In the public school, you can opt of State Testing. Are you saying that Connections Academy mandates participation? Your daughter's review was so amazing. I had my 5th grade son watch her portion of you terrific review of Connections Academy.

Depending on your state you can opt out. I live in MN and I have easily opted out for the last 4-5 years. Just fill out a form and submit it.

Unfortunately it’s impossible to have good grades with Tecca Connection, my son always had a perfect grade (A+) with Tecca Connection it went to Cs, and you can try everything the grades don’t go up, also everyday is a quiz for each lesson and it will count toward your grade, one more thing they do the trick questions to make you fail the tests and quizzes, horrible!
@KathrynMay2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry this has been your experience. My daughter gets great grades overall..she was on honor roll. The thing to remember is that those daily quizzes don’t count for much or anything in the bigger picture. The end grade is based on a cumulative of tests, portfolio’s and daily.

I have seen the commercial on tv and I see a crow in the beginning and it shows me that they know what they should be teaching people. I was wondering what they teach people in school. They should just put a picture of me at the beginning of the history book with a bunch of crows or ducks and connections academy knows that already. Just take a look at the pictures I took and you will see what is happening to our world. We dont want that to happen in this area is all they should teach.

Connections Academy is a failure not good at all. One mistake and your score from 100 to 50, the grading system is a failure, no physical or eBooks for all subjects, no response from their room setup when there are issues. They will call you a million times before they get you in and then forget about finding them. Only teachers respond. Find something better.
