I did the lights and stepper motors and then the cluster started working intermittently. Wiggling the plug would cause it to function some times. I found this video and got the ground pin out using a sharp pick and crimped it with needle nose pliers. That helped. I had trouble with the other pins so I did a little checking for a pin removal tool. I found this set by Lisle, the 57750 Wire Terminal Tool Kit for about $35 on Amazon. I ordered the set and will do them all when I get it.

Just replaced all the stepper motors and installed blue LEDs using a kit sold on Amazon. Last person who tried burned up several of the solder points...worst of which was the speedometer. Luckily, I used to modify Xbox 360 consoles back in the day (Reset Glitch Hack), so I used my fiberglass pen to remove the epoxy on the mobo to expose and solder to the trace(s). After all that, I plug in the cluster and nothing...then I wiggle the plug on the back and the stepper motors wind up and the leds come on. Looks like I'll be working on the plug tonight. Thanks for the video!

If you have an "03" Tahoe with back lights but no gauges or DIC you say it is an internal cluster problem. Mine I can squeeze the plastic around the connector and the gauges will come on. What is the fix for that, or is there even a simple answer for that?
@joshuafimple40695 жыл бұрын
T Cameron did you ever figure out the answer? I have an 03 Avalanche that does the same thing. I can move it around and if i squeeze the grey and blue parts on the clip, get the entire thing to come on and function fine until I shut it off and leave it for 15 minutes. Then its off again.

Same problem here on an 04 Silverado 1500. Did you guys replace your clusters?
@chrispatterson46854 жыл бұрын
Same here. 2003 GMC Sierra Denali...I replaced all the stepper motors, replaced leds, went over the solders on the resistors and even reflowed around the pin connector. I have already confirmed the power and ground connections for the connector seem to be in good shape (removed them and made sure they were shaped correctly, etc.) When I plug in my cluster, I hear the stepper motors wind up. So when I turn the key everything comes on. Everytime I think I have it fixed, i put it all back together and in a few days it won't work. Each time all the leds work, but the PRNDL, gauges, nor DIC come on. So i take it back out then plug it back in and it works. I have questioned my solders multiple times, I have questioned the connector multiple times. Yesterday I pulled it out again, went over my solders again then plugged the board in. Everything came on...then I moved the board putting a little tension on the wires and connection and I noticed one of the amber leds (check engine maybe?) started cutting out. Moved it back and it comes back on...so, I'm back to thinking it's the connector. I'm honestly about ready to pull that whole connector out and replace it or refurb it. Has anyone else pulled it out? What did you guys do to get yours fixed?

If you want to fix it yourself, it's usually a bad soldering joint on the resistors inside the cluster. Forewarning: if you're not very experienced in micro-soldering, It might be best to take it to a computer/ tech shop that repairs motherboards and have them do it. I fixed this same problem in my truck but I wasn't well equipped enough to do the soldering properly and the solder joints look like a toddler tried doing it... but the PRND31 is on now!

Hey Jake, did you ever get your questions answered. I have the same thoughts.
@BostonBorn8 жыл бұрын
My 2004 Escalade instrument panel has been dead for a couple years. The one thing that does work is the check engine light (when something needs fixing). One odd thing though...the signal lights stay on 100% of the time whether the truck is on or not (they stay lit even when there's no key and all locked up), the directionals still work despite this issue. I also have no odometer lights (no idea what the actual mileage is...) or any audible indicators, such as the back up sensor (I rely on the blinking light in the rear of the truck...😳). All that being said, it sounds like it's a power issue or lack there of. I will be implementing this fix.....what's the worst that can happen??? p.s. Yes, I will disconnect the battery first 👍🏼

@robtemple34455 жыл бұрын
This may be a little late, but using the P/N you provided for the connector shell, I found the terminals you were inquiring about. There are two sizes. The first is for larger wire diameters (0.8-1.0mm/18-20ga): p/n 12146448. The 2nd p/n is:12146447, which is for wire size 0.35-0.5mm/24-26ga. I actually found them on the "mouser.com" website after Googleing the p/n you provided. They are called "Series: Micro-pack 100". Manufactured by Aptiv (formerly Delphi). Thanks for the connector p/n, I've been looking for these for a while. I'm going to make a test bench for my instrument cluster (2003 GMC Envoy) .
