The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

For those who are curious. This song was written in 1961 by Giulio Rapetti aka Mogol. It was his first hit. In the following years he wrote among the most beautiful and beloved Italian songs for many singers. I mention one of them: Lucio Battisti. His songs, or rather his poems, marked an era and continue to arouse emotions even in younger generations. Notice. To fully appreciate these poems and experience the emotions they provoke, one must know Italian or at least another Neo-Latin language into which they were translated. Happy research.

She is well remembered. I saw her in concert in Ft. Lauderdale in 2010. I had traveled all the way from Seattle to see this wonderful artist. The venue was filled to overflowing; and not just with snowbirds and aging baby boomers like myself. I even got to meet her afterwards. Always going to be one of the high points of my life.

Ciao. I am 61 years old. I remember when I was a child, say 8 years of age, and I remember my paternal grandmother singing with Connie. My grandmother was not that great of a singer, and I remember her trying to hit the last note, which she did not hit and she said in a broke American accent, "...thank God for the noise of the vaccum cleaner..." No matter what, I love Connie. Lastly, had the great opportunity in 1988 to attend Connie's concert at the Warwick Musical Tent.

Of all the female singers God has put on this earth, there's no one to ever beat the fabulous Connie Francis. Every word, every note comes straight from her heart. Her voice is such that it can induce the water works, especially when one is feeling down. I do wish I knew Italian. I've loved the song 'Al Di La' ever since I heard it in the 1963 film 'Lovers Must Learn' sung by the equally fabulous Emelio Pericoli. The film starred the gorgeous, Suzanne Pleshette and heart-throb, Troy Donahue on whom the song is featured. The number is truly "timeless"!!!

Ms. Francis always was a knock-out vocalist, and this is a prime example of her skill. 💕So magnificent to see these live clips from the past! Simple music….wonderful songs…superb vocals with no enhancements…how wonderful that these shows were recorded “just” with equipment on set (which were full orchestras and state-of-the-art, Broadway theater level acoustics and sound management). And they sound superb!
