I'm 46 yrs old, so this was before my time. My parents however, both grew up in their teens during the late 1950s to early 60"s. So the earliest music I heard growing up besides Spanish music, was Rock and Roll. My mother was two favorite artists were Elvis Presley, and Connie Francis. I remember playing Connie Francis record, hearing all her songs and first time I saw her photos on the album, I was crushing hard on her😂😂! So ..my first female crush on an artist was Connie Francis. Before Whitney and Mariah there was Connie. Not only a beauty but a voice to match that.

Great to hear her do this on the Sullivan show. He hated lip syncing-so this is live. If you catch her singing this on "American Bandstand", for instance, it is totally lip synced, as it was on some other pop programs. Sullivan's show was true music, and that is why The Ed Sullivan Show is just about the most important archive of American Culture in existence!

Back in 1959, her single of this hit was the first "45" I ever bought (I still have it). Such a catchy tune, and it started my affection for female pop singers. I was 11 years old. Hard to believe that only 4 or 5 years later I bought an LP of Kristen Flagstad/Wilhelm Furtwangler with Wagner highlights. The "Liebestod" from "Tristan Und Isolde" moved me into the next phase, which was supreme vocal singing. Many recordings of many styles of music (my ultimate was recordings of all of the greatest pianists in history to make records). Thousands of LPs and CDs followed in the next 60 years. But Connie Francis started it all.

Other than that it's a great start to finally seeing her performances. They started doing more Connie after I kept asking on here and Instagram later on. Ed had her on over and over again. I wanna see her doing Found myself a guy with the entire Frank Sinatra chat and introducing her. Then they hug at the end which is so cute as she's doing her final note. I entirely agree with you. And I’m glad so see and listen to a singer whose body wasn’t ruined by awful tattoos and who could perform live without having to rely on technical gimmicks.

I don’t think I quite recognise her back then. She looked very different later.

I think this is a lip-synch, probably recorded at rehearsal with the Ray Bloch Orch. The song is shorter, the arrangement different and if you look at the opening shot there is no microphone above. This is not a criticism of Connie 🧡, just how I see it.

No she's really singing here. He didn't allow any lip syncing. All shows are live. If it was a studio recording she wouldn't have allowed some of those vocals to go through. She's was a perfectionist in the 50s to mid 60s. Then she started relaxing more and got into vanity unfortunately with the nose jobs which started the bad road for her career vocals wise. Her voice isn't really loud and polished here and it's because she's very natural here. She's singing. Connie unlike the singer's after her actually recorded live with bands in the studio. She wasn't autotuned and she did different takes until they chose the one to go on the record. :) I'm watching closely again. She would be the most perfect lipsyning artist of she was. Every pose and breath and movement matches every single point of it. Ed didn't allow lipsyning. That's why his show is the most Legendary to get actual performances. We know Brenda is you're favorite but she always was 2nd to Connie. Connie got the 1st #1 as I told you in the past. Brenda two weeks later thanks to Connie paving the road for her and then a few years later Shelley Fabres with Johnny Angel. :) Be thankful for Connie not trying to imply that she lipsanc. All artists do that sometimes on certsin shows to promote what you'll exactly get for a record you buy. 👍

The songs are all usually shorter for tv. They cut out solo instrumentals too to this day like Spice Girls viva forever on live tv performances and even the music video. If Connie's song was long and the same as the record it would make more sense what you implied but Ed didn't allow lipsyning At All. Connie always sang and was put on the show almost 30 times! I watch these performances often and she is 100% singing.

No way. She’s singing it differently. Plus the Ray Block Band, which was the Sullivan house band, ruined it.

@@berealsupportive2744 As the decade wore on, Ed Sullivan seems to have loosened his standard for performance authenticity, as appearances by The Mamas and Papas and The Lovin' Spoonful posted on this channel will verify. But for this Connie Francis appearance, regardless of whether or not the boom could be seen in the wide shot, she's live IMO. Her handclaps are synched like a clapper board. By the time she's into the second verse, the vowels in the rhyming words at the end of the line are broken up, unlike the more flowing legato manner on the record. Subtle mouth movements all line up. Funny how she does the limp wrist hand thing just like Bobby Darin.

@@Playbyplaymedia Yes and this was 1959 and the show went into the 70s. She sung every song live on the show. You can tell as she makes every movement, breath and expression for how it happens live. Her lipsyning times are not perfect. No one can do it perfect. She is 100% live here and for all performances on the show. :)

Geeeze, she's 22 here, looking like a 35 year old, singing about teeny bopper experiences. I mean, she's a good singer and all, talented, no doubt. But no older woman ever looks good trying to act younger than she seems. Oh, yeah, another thing, whys she only mad at her man who was kissing her best friend, Mary-Jane? Takes two to tango. Shouldn;t she be furious at her so-called best friend for smooching her man? Females can control their passions, men can't. Drunk gal grabs a strange guy in a bar and starts kissing, he's running with it no matter what. Boyfriends come and go but best friends only come along once in a great while so that really sucks for both of them.
