Connor Bedard's shooting has become one of the most studied players of the NHL this season. In this video Jason breaks down one aspect of his shooting that hasn't been talked about before and how it is much different than what is being taught by shooting coaches today around the world.
In this insightful video, we delve into the advanced techniques of hockey shooting, focusing on a unique method that defies conventional wisdom yet yields incredible power. Highlighted by an analysis of Connor Bedard's shooting form, we explore the fundamentals of the Slingshot Shooting System, emphasizing the unconventional grip and body mechanics that set this method apart.
Discover how supinating the wrist, contrary to traditional coaching advice, can create a dynamic tension throughout the player's kinetic chain, from wrist to back, culminating in a powerful, compact shot. We break down the concept of "net hands" and the strategic placement of hands in front of the puck, enhancing the slingshot effect for maximum power.
Further, we challenge common coaching directives with a deep dive into the technique of not leaning heavily on the stick but instead using strategic hand movement and wrist flexibility to generate a dual wrist spring effect. This technique, involving both the front and back of the wrist, unlocks an explosive shot even from players with a smaller physique.
Our video also addresses the often-overlooked aspect of posture in shooting power. Contrary to the traditional strength and conditioning cue of maintaining a neutral spine, we discuss the advantages of a rounded back in creating dynamic tension across the back, inspired by some of the greatest players in the sport.
For players eager to master these techniques, we introduce the Slingshot Shooting System, available through Train 2.0, where you can learn these mechanics step-by-step and revolutionize your shooting power.

Holding the stick his lower hand wrist is supinated and upper hand wrist is pronated. The upper hand wrist was both initially pronated and flexed.

Awesome! He also changes the position of his lower (right) hand as well to increase this leverage. And it seems as though he supinates his top hand as Kane does when stick handling which u may have already covered. Love ur videos as a 55 yr old beer leaguer endeavoring to improve constantly...

When he’s creating the stretch (pulling away from the body) it almost appears like he’s unsheathing a sword. Pretty cool

I noticed his stick height helps with the torque of the stick it’s longer than usual

I've started doing his toe drag shot. I think the rounded back is important, For me because I'm short but strong in my back & arms.

Best cue for beer leaguer like me that helped to shoot like this, is also in shot drive knee over toe, this results in drooping hips, this result on "lean on stick" and flex.
