I think the issue is that T1 and T2 were movies of their time. T1 was a slasher in an era of slashers, where the villain was a computer and acted like it. T2 was an action film in an era of action films. They were a bit too successful, but didn't give much to go with. If the stakes kept getting bigger, focusing on protecting one or two people starts to feel ridiculous, as it did in T3 and T4. If you moved towards a more general plot about stopping the big evil bad guy, you move away from the core of the franchise which is about underequipped humans fighting an unstoppable enemy. T2 also stops any sequel potential, the T-800 is dead and so is Skynet, there's no way of moving forward without taking a dump on it. This wasn't built to be a huge franchise and it showed. Genisys was the most logical next step. It was a reboot designed to make the franchise be able to have sequels that made sense It sets up mysteries to be discovered, like who sent Pops back in time, or now this new transcendent Skynet now being harder to stop. It's basically designed to fart out sequels that make sense.

Considering the universe of the terminator is constantly rewriting itself (movie and comic book wise) if Skynet Conner kills his parents he'd still exist as that reality of him that killed them would exist and the reality they're in's John Conner won't exist. It's because that version of John sent back Kyle and created a different John Conner. The existence of John and Skynet is forever, the shape they take when created is forever changing.

It's kinda obviously to slow them down, even if you can't kill terminators with pistols you can possibly slightly reduce their speed for a moment. Most terminators stop or slow down a bit after getting shot for dramatic effect. The script trying to cram three movies worth of content (2029, 1984, alternate 2017) into a single movie doesn't let any of the ideas breathe, and in the final section they introduce all these new ideas that are just excuses to have the exact same events happen again anyway. The T-3000 is the ultimate infiltrator, yet all the infiltrating he actually does is entirely offscreen, and using him as a generic Terminator in the same type of role as all the previous ones doesn't justify his existence; as it is, a T-1000 imitating John could have fulfilled pretty much the exact same role the "real" John does in this movie. Maybe that could have been a cool idea, a future war movie where a T-1000 uses its shapeshifting to infiltrate the Resistance and wreak havoc as it sabotages them.

I have a friend who refuses to watch any trailers, and he actually enjoyed this film. He found this scene jaw dropping. With a bit of creative editing, they could have made it look like Matt Smith was the Terminator in the trailers and the film would've gotten better ratings from the twist.

My brother and my nephew had the good fortune of not seeing any trailers. After the movie they seen one and my nephew said "That's the whole movie right there in the trailer." I had the privilege of introducing my nephew to T2, and then showed him this movie. Pretty much all he needed to see imo. :P

People can say what they want, bur the sorrowful look in Arnold's eyes at 55 seconds. It is like "I'm sorry, John is gone" and "Don't you trust me, Sarah." It's seriously like a father looking at his daughter. Not a Terminator. ARNOLD can fucking act, bro. He has become amazing with age. He IS the T-800, and he knows it. He suddenly just switches back into Terminator mode, on command.

The heavy look Arnold has in his eyes at the 55 second mark is borderline amazing. He's saying "I'm sorry" "You don't know the whole story but I realize you'll die inside if I tell you" and "I'm afraid you'll see reality soon enough" all at once.

1:40 this is something that I always wanted to know, I only wanted a sequel to answer this problem, but all the people that hate it, and the critic, just killed the movie and reebot it for Dark Fate. That was a really nice touch for the story, to understand who send the T-800 to protect Sarah as a child, even John, the one that sends them didn’t knew, there could have been a third problem that could altered the Time Line.

One thing i noticed in this movie was that all the actors' faces were clean all the way to end. Unlike T1 where i could see the characters faces becoming sweaty, gritty and bloody, and we could feel the characters' struggle, the battle weariness, their exhaustion. I dont feel those when watching Genisys
