Want to see more of this collaborative effort! Back in the day we talked about the "young lions" of jazz, led by Wynton Marsalis, but now we have a young lioness - Summer Camargo! She's amazing.

This is terrific. Hats off to Maureen and Don Sickler. The recording perfectly recreates the warmth of Van Gelder's classic era recordings that jazz fans love so much. And great production and performances!

Some nice sounds here. I grew up 1/4 mile away from this in EC in the 60s and 70s. Literally around the corner. I would pass this by bike and car for decades. I waited in front of it for the bus to HS. I always wondered what the building was. It was always unmarked with an unpaved drive. It looked sort of like an office or more like a home or a home/office. I didn't find out until about 10 years ago due to KZbin. I always thought nothing important ever happened in EC, but I was a short walk from greatness. Who knew. When I read about Tony Bennett following his death a couple of weeks ago, articles explained that Tony lived in the adjacent town, Englewood, for years, and that Mr. Van Gelder helped Tony's son set up an amateur studio in his home. The article went on to explain that the reason so many jazz musicians lived in the area was because of the Van Gelder studio. Years later Tony's son Dae Bennett opened a recording studio of his own around 2002 in downtown Englewood.

Why didn't they provide a chair for the Japanese bassist and didn't mention his name? This is clear discrimination against Japanese people. Yasushi Nakamura won't let it be said that he doesn't know that he is as good or better a player than the rest of the team.
