The cue about the big toe is a game changer for me. If I don’t think about pushing from my big toe, I feel my hamstrings engage much more than my glutes. The only way I can get my glutes to engage more than my hamstrings is if I think about pushing from that big toe. This is so helpful. Thank you!

Conor gave the context. So SU isn't exactly wrong here
@davidethierapril65716 күн бұрын
@@mrgrumpycat9049 I don't think Conor is giving a wrong explanation here. It's just a different context. The Theory from Gluteal Amnesia comes from Studies done by Stuart Mcgill (back pain specialist). The correct scientific term is Arthrogenic neuromusculature inhibition. Basically, all this means is pain in the hip will change your motor patterns. In this case, people will use their back extensors/hamstrings to do the hip extension because the glutes are inhibited from the pain (doesn't mean they don't activate, but they don't do their job). To test this, they induced hip pain in healthy subjects with intra-articular pressurization and documented the lower gluteal activation in standardized hip extension tests. Releasing the pressure restored the gluteal activation. This is true for any body part, if you have pain, your nervous system will inhibit your mucles to prevent further injury. You can take a look at the study here www.backfitpro.com/medical-scientific-articles/2013/[51]Freeman,S.(2013)Arthrogenic-neuromuscular-inhibition[Clin.Biomech.].pdf

Big difference between not working and underactive. Also, underactive (or weaker) compared to other muscles operating on a joint or area could be a REAL issue. He may have a point for some people's issues, but since we are all built basically the same there should be some basic maintenance exercise and/or stretch that will keep hips and back healthy, pain-free and functioning.

Hello Connor. I've been following you for quite some time now and I really appreciate your content, thanks for that first of all! My question is, what happens if you're not able to create that point of contact of your tripod due to wearing too small shoes over a longer period of time. So having a halux valgus and a digitus quintus varus. You can observe that the profile of barefootshoes are mostly being used in between those 2 toes. The foot is is over pronated and up the chain you can observe some genu valgus and an atp with limitations in the hip in almost every movement option. Also there's a lot of compression in the rib cage and i't not able to really open up. All the best!
