I met a man who told me he lived on BOTH sides of the border at the same time and I almost bet him he didn't but when I visited him I discovered the border runs through the middle of his house Thus he could stand at one end and be in Northern Ireland and at the opposite end he would be in the Republic of Ireland. There is extreme irony by the very fact that a united Ireland would take away the North/South crossborder price diffential that creates smuggling profits in the first place. So imo the likes of 'Slab Murphy' and other other borderland republicans 'struggle' was not to have a united Ireland but more a case of making U.K South Armagh a no go zone for U.K police and customs. That way the smuggling racket could operate without risk of interruption, arrest(s) and court punishment(s). And to keep everyone happy U.K authorities have let the smuggling continue to keep the likes of 'Slab' on board the peace process. There is some irony that the Republic of Ireland has also been robbed of mega-tax revenue (pays for hospitals and public services) by the very people who claim to want to be part of it.
