This is exactly the video I’ve needed. I’ve had around 15 hours of lessons with an instructor. I decided to practice in my partner’s car and got overwhelmed trying to keep up with other cars and changing gears too close to roundabouts. This practice will really help.

@dontmindme52903 ай бұрын
@johnlamsdan just the videos. I did try my mothers car up an industrial estate however it is 14 years old so i only went forward for like 10 seconds after stalling a bunch since her clutch and brake is awful. It was mainly a bunch of guess work from what I had seen in videos as obviously she couldn't teach me. But with my instructor then it's like it put the pieces together and allowed me to know what to do beforehand

Excellent video, and this is not only useful for beginners. I still do this as someone who's been driving manual for 10+ years. I also often "jog" (as in engine brake to get in a safe controlled speed) when approaching traffic on the highway to match traffic speed. That gives me more time to look around and check if it's safe to make a lane change as opposed to someone who approaches at a higher speed and needs to use the brake pedal to slow down.

For example when following a sat nav in an area you don’t know, taking the first exit at a roundabout in the left lane onto a two or more lane road, to then be told to take the next right at the lights. It’s not always safe to switch lane in time. But should the roundabout have been taken in the middle lane to be in the right lane for these lights. If that made any sense!

Hi my driving test is 13th August - tomorrow afternoon and I wanted to ask how you deal with hill junctions because they are giving me the most trouble other than random minor faults. My instructor’s car is an Audi A1 2021 model and on hills after stopping, the clutch stays at the bit point without the brake but when trying to move off I have to lower the clutch a little to disengage the clutch and need to quickly use some gas to move away otherwise there is a chance that I take too long for the car to start moving.

I've one question though - I have difficulties putting my older car in first gear while its moving (feels like it has to be forced in, not sure if it's healthy for the transmission). My solution so far has been to use second gear with higher revs (~2k) to get going when 'walking'. I'm wondering if there is a better workaround? Thank you!

Will this not wear down the clutch quicker?
@elmatichos3 ай бұрын
The clutch wears when it's released just enough to deliver some power, but it doesn't engage fully yet, and when you add lots of throttle at that point, it starts heating. Heat increases wear, and prolonged high temperatures are detrimental to the clutch. He has, however, never held the clutch at that spot for long enough or at high enough rotating speeds of the engine.

Hi mate. 👋 Is it ok to wait on a no stopping bus stop clearway with a wide yellow line along the kerb of the bus stop while in a stationary queue of traffic?
@ConquerDriving3 ай бұрын
There won't be a benefit to leaving that clear as the bus would still be behind you in the traffic.
@WayneTulip-zm9gw3 ай бұрын
Hi mate, I just wanted to apologise to you, you’re absolutely right. 🙃 I’ve had a look online and that’s absolutely right, with clearways basically it means no stopping unless you literally have no other choice but to stop, for example, if you’re on a motorway and it’s so congested with traffic you will have literally no other choice but to stop, also, last year I was driving home from work on a 24 hour clearway (which only permits stopping in a lay-by unless signs say otherwise) and there were roadworks and traffic lights which were on red so I literally had no other choice but to stop, with clearways I imagine that there are double red lines which means literally no stopping at all unless you’re in a stationary queue of traffic or for reasons outside of your control, I always have a look through of the Highway Code, it says this about yellow zigzag lines :- rule 238, which is a waiting and parking rule states “You MUST NOT wait or park or stop to set down and pick up passengers on school entrance markings when upright signs indicate a prohibition of stopping”, so, it’s basically saying that if yellow zigzag lines don’t have an accompanying sign then they are only advisory but you still shouldn’t park there and you still shouldn’t pick up or drop off passengers there because you should respect the reason why they’re there (to keep school children and school staff safe and to give them an unrestricted view when crossing the road), if yellow zigzag lines have an accompanying sign it means that there is a mandatory prohibition of stopping so if you stop on them to park or to pick up and set down passengers you’re breaking the law but stopping on them in a stationary queue of traffic or at a red traffic light is absolutely fine because it’s outside of your control, you could wait before the yellow zigzag lines start and then start to move when you see the traffic in front of you start to move but doing that wouldn’t make any sense because some yellow zigzag lines are quite long and you’d hold traffic up which isn’t good for traffic flow and it would annoy other drivers, especially if you’re preventing them from turning left or right, with bus stop clearways it says this about them in the Highway Code :- rule 243 of the Highway Code states :- “DO NOT stop or park near a school entrance, at or near a bus stop, except when forced to do so by stationary traffic”, rule 240 of the Highway Code states :- “you MUST NOT stop or park on a clearway”, however, if you look online at schedule 19 part 1 section 4 of the traffic signs regulations and general directions 2016 it says :- “other exceptions, nothing in paragraph 2 applies in relation to a vehicle which is prevented from proceeding by circumstances beyond the driver’s control or which has to be stopped in order to avoid injury or damage to persons or property”, so, it’s basically saying that if you’re on a clearway and you have no other choice but to stop due to reasons beyond your control or to avoid injury or damage to to people or property then that’s absolutely fine.
@ConquerDriving3 ай бұрын
@@WayneTulip-zm9gw no need to apologise, many people ask me if they need to leave bus stops clear when in traffic. When in traffic try not to block other traffic that could flow freely. Yellow lines, red lines, bus stops and other no waiting, no parking and no stopping areas are not relevant because you're waiting in traffic.
@WayneTulip-zm9gw3 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you, we need to think of best flow for everyone, not just for ourselves, you’re absolutely right, as with everything in life there is always an exception, as it says in the traffic signs regulations and general directions 2016 under clearways, you’re allowed to stop on a clearway for reasons outside of your control and to avoid injury or damage to people or to property.

4:00 - I often tell people that the biggest issue with learners is that they go too fast. People look at me and think “ what ? “ as they have visions of a learner driving too slow but it’s not going over the speed limit that’s making them too fast, it’s that they are too fast for what they are trying to achieve. They try to copy the speed that they see being done when they are a passenger but, like you said, that’s the END goal not what they should be doing initially.
