Getting ever closer to home, flying our Cessna 172 from Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Alaska after panel upgrades. It's been a huge trip so far, and now we're about to enter the Canadian Rockies.
This type of flying is challenging, but flying in a new place is also a lot of fun. With careful planning, our aviation journey continues.
First we start in Grande Prairie, on our way to Ft Nelson. The first leg doesn't have a lot of terrain, and the flight goes by fast. We end the flight with some confusion on the radio, and someone taking off right in front of us.
Next flight, Ft Nelson to Watson Lake, this is by far the most beautiful of all our legs. Towering mountains, blue frozen lakes, it's really wonderful. At Watson Lake we see the rich history of the area, known for a stopping point for WWII aircraft going to Russia.
Our goal for the day is to get to Alaska, but now we try for another leg. Watson Lake to Whitehorse, another 3 hour leg of flying.
By the time we get in Whitehorse, we're really wiped out. We decided to call it a night. It's the safe thing to do.

Wow, 9 hours of flying in one day. Last month I flew through the Canadian Rockies. From Valleyview Alberta to Grand Forks BC. What normally takes 16 hours by car, I was able to do in 3.5 hours with my Comanche 180. And with over half tanks of fuel left!!! But even after that flying single pilot, I felt very tired. Can't imagine what those long days must feel like. Love the videos!!

Absolutely love the thought process and how you both listen to what the other might suggest. This kind of thinking ahead and considering all angles is what keeps us safe at the end of the day. It's so easy to let pressure and emotions take over when trying to make these decisions. Wow what beautiful scenery along the way though. I hope I'm still on your text list. I just wonder because I haven't gotten one from you in at least a couple of months and used to get them quite often. I kept making jokes to my friends I’d buy a plane (I try and start a new hobby every year) after playing MC flight sim the other day by chance with a friend I found myself popping on again later the next day. I have flown a Cessna 172 before when I was 16 but now I’m 22 and 23 on the 31st this month I really do think it’s next years project. This channel has been a binge watch for me the past few days and I’m very much enjoying it.

Used to fish at 'Bridge Lake' in BC; when I was stationed at Ft Lewis, WA. Once attempted to drive with my 5th wheel (I called home) to Alaska. Covered a lot of the same 'route' once I got to Ft Nelson. Went on to Lake Watson, and apparently changed my mind.... Ended up driving to White Horse, YK. Saw the sun set and rise all inside of 15 minutes.. LoL.. Beautiful country in BC. No wonder that is the 'moniker' on their license plates! Enjoyed your trip with you! Will be looking for the 'final' legs.. Thank you for your effort and labor...!

We overnighted in Watson Lake. We had previously gone from Lake Charles to Watson Lake via Ft Nelson. The T-41B had an extra 17 gallon tank in the baggage area that can pump up into the right wing tank. So burn right side down, move to left tank and fill the right from the baggage tank. Just watch your balance. We topped off everything at White Horse, cleared customs at Northway and had enough fuel for Gulkana. I think that was the only leg we used the baggage tank. Very heavy getting out of White Horse. Good idea to stop for the night.

This episode struck me particularly. I trained to fly in Grand Prairie in 2005 and flew into Fort Nelson as my first leg of my cross country to Peace River then back to GP. I do recall turbulence also when i approached although the radio freq was good for me. When me and my CSI flew into Fort Nelson a day before I got myself outside of security and had alot of explaining to my instructor who reminded me our flight plan was time sensitive and my being locked out on wrong side of security lost us some time. The Tim Hortons hype is from before they were bought by an American company, and ruined. The doughnuts and timbits are now frozen, and the once fantastic quality coffee is crap. Apparently McDoggies bought out their coffe supplier, but they don't brew as strong. Still better than "timmies" now

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Your entire super long trip home was flown with an unairworthy airplane. And it was recorded. Although it was your avionics shops fault, you as pilot in command are ultimately responsible. You took out your DG. That’s fine. It was a primary instrument. The GI-275 is also a FAA approved replacement for the DG. However this is where it goes sideways. Since it replaces the primary DG instrument it must always be a DG. When in the ADI backup page it shows heading. When in the HSI page it shows heading. When in the HSI map page it shows heading. The unit must be locked to these 3 pages. No data page. No weather page. And no terrain page. Since you flew around with the terrain page it was obvious that the airplane was not installed in accordance with the Garmin STC and is therefor unairworthy. Sounds like a technicality. That’s all an insurance company needs to not pay a claim. It all a FAA rep needs to yank your license. The STC install manual is very clear on this and your shop should no better.
