Might I make a suggestion for the developers to give the governors house and senate a purpose in future versions of Augustus? Idea is like in Pharaoh where the governors salary is paid via the senate to the governors house. Failure to build a house will affect Favour rating as how can Caesar respect a governor with no home? Likewise a house that is too lavish for your rank could also affect Favour rating. Maybe also different levels of governors house can determine what sort of gifts can be given to Caesar? An evolved Senate might also earn interest on city funds.

No one knows the spirit of Caesar than the developers of Augustus, so if they have provided a setting, you should have no shame in using it, and you should ignore all those who say otherwise. Games are meant to be enjoyed, not feel miserable about. This culture of "you need to suffer to truly enjoy something" is nonsense. I'm sure the developers of the original would back me up on this as well.

for refrence of the favour gains and losses: Favour: Favour is the reflect of how Caesar sees you and your ability to serve the Empire/Republic. Per year: You will lose 2 points if you pay yourself a salary that matches your rank. You will lose 1 point if you pay yourself a salary that is 1 rank below your rank. You will win 1 point if you pay yourself a salary that is 2 ranks below your rank. Per event: You will lose 20 points if you fail to send troops to help the Empire/Republic. You will lose 5 points if you send help but fail to save the city. You will win 50 points and a Triumphal Arch if you send and save the city. You will lose Favour if you fail to meet the requests sent to your city. You will win Favour if you meet the requests, sending the requested goods early or late will not affect the Favour gain.

Grand insulae have the same population as large, but are better for prosperity (all grand insulae give 80 rating, while large only 65) AND pay significantly more taxes (+33% if I'm not mistaken), so it's almost always worth it to go for them. Especially on northern maps where the second food type isn't slower growing than wheat (the houses also don't consume the second food type at the same speed, so 4 fruit + 4 wheat farms supply the same amount of population as 8 wheat) Furthermore, in Augustus, providing a second (third, fourth...) food type makes people happier, allowing you to tax them even more, so it's even worth it in southern maps. Supplying extra entertainment (above the level needed for evolvement) is also an easy way to make people happier, so if you can build an arena or tavern, do it!

I completely disagree. It feels like you can't build your standard blocks which you'll find is the case in most natural cities in more challenging terrain. The only thing i could agree on is the passages where you can connect the various city portions. It's a bit "too" convenient when there's only one option to connect your city together. Outside that i think this is one of the better maps out there. Forces you to think differently which i think is a good way to ensure your map is more than pure scenery and numbers.

Indigenous people but no way to pacify or trade with them, vicious enemies attacking the starting area but no towers or guard towers allowed, no lion house, no plazas, nerfed trading.. Seemingly for no other reason than to make it more difficult for the player. If it would follow from some kind of story element, it would be fine. But like this, it feels a bit forced and artificial to me. I did watch Zakh play it from beginning to end though, so I can't say it wasn't entertaining :)

I don't think c3 has that much spirit to dictate settings. You could say augustus devs added those settings for a reason. Just some quick reading shows there were times in rome old age was at around 60, so it wouldn't be unexpected people worked till they're 60, or died from some fun disease. Anyway, it's just silly gatekeeping.

@GamerZakh

Haha I just wish they were consistent with their views. Monuments, sentiment, plague, levies, and all that aren't part of the original game but they view it as "in the spirit" just because it makes things harder. I've even been told that options like disabling gods is "not in the spirit" of the game, even though that's an option in vanilla Caesar 3 lol. They forget that there were options like that in the original and they just default to calling it "cheating" because it makes the game easier.

Yeah so the argument is that the Augustus devs are adding things that aren't in the spirit of the Impressions Game's devs ideas. Of course, I've asked Simon Bradbury directly about Augustus ideas and he said that they would've done things like that too if they had the time.

Does each "Pahh!!" as you go into and out of debt multiple times have an effect on favor at the end of the year? It did not appear to have an immediate effect at the time of the Pahh!! Also you went many years without sending Caesar a gift, and only sent something when you were getting close to the 20 favor mark. Would it have helped to consistently send him something in the early years?

I propose the devs add a city hall / senate wing style monument that has the effect of raising retirement age from 50 to 60. I mean realistically if ancient city states were struggling they would probably implement draconical solutions through forced civics anyway, no? (I know this would be a lot of work with the required artwork and all, but it would also be a fun solution to a late-game problem)

The import cost for marble is 400 per piece, so building 1 oracle costs 1000dn. Plus, a temple is 2 workers, so even if I got a few oracles down, it'll save me what like 20 workers? It would save me levies in the long run, maybe about 500 a year, but I'd need to invest many thousands up front to get just a few oracles down. By the time I had the money to do it, it didn't matter.

1:52:50 I... actually disagree with everything in here xD They don't have to impose their feelings. Everybody plays the way they like. You want it harder, do it harder, you want it easier, play it easier. As long as you don't pretend breaking records when changing all the rules. Which, you, Zakh, don't. But. Yes Augustus, but looking at the map, it's spaces, it's arrangement, and the different areas, it's actually meant to be played more efficiently and also, some areas are not meant for what you used them for. This map would have been a lot easier to play if you allowed yourself to move entire infrastructures once discovering a new area and if you played more efficiently, thus, the argument of "Augustus" is harder, even if true, doesn't apply in here. As this map is meant for Augustus, to be more of a challenge, and thus more difficult. (For example, areas 1 and 2 with their water coverage availability and their size are actually meant to have quick military response + trade + population / timber and ore industries should have been moved away to more narrow ones) Good job nonetheless for beating it. May the "PAH" be with you !

So you cheated, huh? But seriously, even in vanilla I think the retirement age is too low. People used to solve that issue by destroying houses to kick out the old folk. Or by keeping city health low so people wouldn't get old at all. Raising the retirement age is a far more humane solution. And more fun game play wise.
