Conquest of Paradise Board Game Review

my wife is Maori and we both really loved this game. she really appreciated the designer's notes as well; that was a real treat for us. we both felt like the game handled the subject matter thoughtfully, without being patronizing or trying to inject certain contemporaneously popular "anti-colonialist" views, which she would take issue with. the battle system was a bit underwhelming, especially since our first GMT game was Combat Commander Europe, but it's alright - it works and does what it needs to...and it's somewhat realistic because tribal battles like those were rarely decisive and sometimes went on for years and years. overall it's a wonderful game and is a great example of how to take a subject that hasn't received much attention and give it a spotlight in a respectful and neutral way. great video, too!

It's 50% off now with the GMT Sale. Now, with the "Designer's Notes," I have to disagree with you on them being "completely unnecessary". It was part of Jim Khron's notes on Space Empires 4X as to what sold me on that series. With those being in this game, they should really bring the game out. A designer's notes are true gems and treasure. "What were they thinking?? ... OOooohhhh. I see now. That makes sense." Great review. I ordered this game. Now, my wife will kill me.
