i remember playing this with my brother when we were both under 12, we got so stuck by the tree puzzles we wrote to sierra and actually recieved an answer from Christy Marx the lead designer

The same thing happened to me, but I was much younger. I think I was around seven years old at the time. I was stuck on a puzzle box or something like that. I lived with my grandparents and I received a letter in the mail one day. This really confused them, and they were excited for me to open and see what it was. It was a reply from Sierra. They gave me lots of hints to help with the puzzles. I remember my grandparents and my mother being really surprised and kind of proud in a weird way that I was able to write them on my own and never even mentioned it to them. Sometimes I randomly think about that memory.

The tree riddles are bloody hard, especially if you were that young. I struggled all the same, but I had a little chest sheet thing with a list of possible answer to EVERY riddle programmed into the game for that part, so it was a matter of tic tac toe for me LOL

A great video, and one that I’ve spent basically all day watching without ever having played the game myself. Well done-although the video cuts out just before the Queen’s Knight segment, and I think some context has been lost there.

I second that. The cut-out was the only flaw, and I can only assume some editing was done but I couldn't see it. very nicely done, and thanks for bringing it

I be but a humble peasant, sharin' me thoughts on the game called "Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood." Gather 'round and hear me review: In me small hovel, I embarked on a grand adventure with Robin Hood in this tale of yore. 'Twas a game filled with mirth and mischief, bringin' the legends to life. The sights and sounds transported me to Sherwood Forest, where Robin and his merry band fought for justice. The game's art be as vibrant as a meadow in spring, painted with intricate details of castles, villages, and the greenwood. Each scene be like a tapestry come to life, as if I be walkin' through Nottinghamshire meself. The gameplay be a challenge for a simple peasant like me. Puzzles and riddles were strewn about, testin' me wits and cunning. Many a time I scratched me head, tryin' to decipher the clues and navigate the treacherous paths. 'Twas no easy feat, but it added to the thrill and sense of accomplishment. The characters in this tale be as lively as a bustling market. Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck, and the Sheriff of Nottingham all played their parts with gusto. The voice acting, though a novelty to me peasant ears, breathed life into their dialogues and made 'em feel real. The music, oh the music! It transported me soul to another time. The melodies of lutes, flutes, and drums filled me ears, creatin' an enchantin' atmosphere fit for a medieval feast. I found meself tappin' me feet and hummin' the tunes long after me playtime had ended. Yet, I must admit, this game had its flaws like a pot with a leak. The controls be a bit finicky, and at times, the path forward seemed unclear. 'Twas frustratin' to wander aimlessly, unsure of me next move. A peasant like me craves a more straightforward path. But overall, "Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood" be a delightful adventure, transportin' me to a time of gallant heroes and dastardly villains. 'Tis a game worthy of praise, though it may challenge even the bravest of peasants. So, gather your wits, unsheathe your virtual bow, and embark on this legendary quest. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Mayhaps this review serves ye well, fair folks, in decidin' whether to embark on this adventure of Robin Hood. Now, back to me humble life, tendin' to me chores and dreamin' of the days of yore.

I wonder what Disney's Robin Hood would look like, if it had this kind of script. Also, I'm curious about the parts where you choose a plan. Do any of them result in a game over? Update: It turns out that choosing the wrong plan for saving Marian will result in death, if you don't put on the ring of fire before calling the men. If you did though, you'll just lose some men. As for attacking the treasure caravan, the wrong plan will also cost some men. But Much's boar plan will also result in the caravan escaping, as you waste too much time trying in vain to catch said boars.

Image ratio fail this should be in 4:3
@thriftweeds5 жыл бұрын
The thing is, most MS-DOS games were actually rendered in 320x200, which is a 16:10 aspect ratio and thus widescreen - but they weren't displayed that way. I won't pretend I know all the technical details - there are way better sources for that - simply put, the CRT monitors back then stretched images to fit the screen. The 320x200 image was stretched to fit the entire 4:3 screen, to something close to 320x240. What today we see as a sharp, square pixel was actually a blurry rectangle back then, about 20% taller than wider (the Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST and other home computers all had different resolutions, but the principle is quite similar). It should be a simple matter to solve, but digital displays like the ones we all use today cannot stretch a pixel - it will always be perfectly square, with a 1:1 aspect ratio. And this is a problem. -Gamasutra
Sierra mist sponsored this game? Well, soda companies are allowed to spend their money how they like

was gonna download this and play it again but seeing how bad the graphics are compared to todays standards, its just so fcking bad. Its basically unplayable in this modern age. Is this even VGA?
@thriftweeds6 жыл бұрын
Yes. VGA 320x200 resolution. Back in 90s graphics looked way better more life or film like on a proper CRT monitor because of the tube and interlaced scanlines.
