Congrats on your new citizenship! As an immigrant myself, I was introduced to a new culture and culture shock early on in life but I easily adapted to the ways of my new country and now I don't know how I could have lived any other way. I think the people who have most difficulties are the immigrants who can't adapt and cling to their old culture and refuse to adapt to the ways and language of their new country

Totally agree with you about everything! Nobody believes me about the laundry issues, Haha but it's definitely true. I've been here 20 years.

Thank you!!!! It really is crazy here! Anything else you would add to stuff that’s hard or challenging about living here? Congratulations on 20 years! Do you find it tough sometimes to remember what things were like in the US?

Congratulations on your citizenship! Thank you for the frank talk. It's nice to hear. I love the UK, but it is different in so many ways. But I would take it all over again if the opportunity came up.

Cheers! Not everyone will want to hear the negatives but they are things that stand out as differences to me. There’s quite a few things that are better though. Have you lived in both countries too or just visited the other?

The timing! I just put a load of laundry in and sat down to watch KZbin. I take for granted our big washers and separate dryers. I can see where hum-drum tasks could get very irritating if they took even LONGER than you're used to. People say we're very passive aggressive here in the Seattle area, so the British way of taking blame when they really don't want to is a pretty common attribute here, too. Maybe that wouldn't bother me as much. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for watching! I’ve never heard that about Seattle but haven’t been there. Have you lived on the West coast your whole life?

@@Sunny_in_London yes. Other than four years at college on the east side of the state, I was born in downtown Seattle and raised/live about 30 minutes north. I've traveled a lot and studied languages and cultures, and it fascinates me how teeny things like a quirky personality trait (such as being passive aggressive) can really stand out in a culture when you're not familiar with it. I think it must be a London thing, because I have two friends from Yorkshire who are NOT like that. They are relatively outgoing and VERY friendly. (I can't wait to visit them next spring!! 🤞)

America is endearing in many ways. What "polished" people find as rude, I find as straight talk by the Americans. There is just no bs with America.

It seems to me that foreigners feel at home in London but there's little love for that city in England itself. It's pretty unusual really. In Ireland even if we sometimes see Dublin as a soulless metropolis, we still think of it as Irish and part of Ireland. But London has become something 'other' to many English in the shires and towns.

All I would say is swap don't mistake London with England. It really really isn't the same.

I definitely agree! What do you think is the best place to live in England?

If you want to meet and talk to neighbours and general public move north to Yorkshire, Lancashire, North East we're not Southerners. To be fair most places outside of London are better.

Thanks! Actually the past two places we have lived have been really great. I’m not sure if I’m just learning how to be more English and know what to say and when though 😉. Yorkshire is beautiful! But- are the houses very close together? I picture them very far apart.

@@Sunny_in_London Can be, depends where you are. But it will be different as we have this stuff between towns and villages and even in cities called land and it's green. You don't get much of that in London, not on the scale of the Dales, North Yorks Moors or Lake District and everything is cheaper as well. Although God help you if you want to get a bus in a lot of places and Dr Beeching got rid of virtually all our railways in the 1960's, just like Boris got rid of the promised new Northern railways recently.

Greeeeeen? That sounds lovely!! I’ve been to York but that’s it for up north. (And Edinburgh but that is different 😉) the other trips I’ve made in England are to the Cotswolds, Cornwall and the south. The pandemic kind of put a halt on a lot of my UK travel plans.

@@Sunny_in_London Well if they ever let us out again you can have years of places to discover all over the UK, cities, towns and seaside including historic castles, stately homes and national parks. I recommend that you get a membership of the National Trust and also English Heritage which would be cheaper than entrance fees if you visit enough places. Scotland and Wales have their own version. See all the stuff we got from all over the world. Mind you there's years worth of stuff and places to go in London alone, check out the KZbin channel Joolz Guides for every bit of London. Something happened every couple of steps in London at some point in London.
