Actually, he's begun delivering on his pledges-he has massively reduced inflation, cut taxes and reduced immigration, both legal and illegal. He's also pulled back from crazy climate change pledges such as to ban all boilers and petrol cars by 2030. Starmer would undo all that progress.

It was government action that reduced inflation as Sunak promised he would, there's been a massive fall in immigration since Sunak's visa restrictions and illegal immigration was reduced by a third last year. Starmer would destroy all that progress by getting rid of the Rwanda scheme. Sunak also cut taxes including National Insurance.

It is useful to talk to Tim Montgomerie to discuss the inner workings of the Tory Party but not to ask for his opinion. He is nice but dim. To believe in his own assessment that Sunak is a decent preson and that Nigel Farage has authenticity and to have actually met them is astonishing. Perhaps he reaches a point where he makes an assessment and sets it in concrete no matter what the evidence. Apart from anything else, Sunak made money during the financial crash and Farage has all the sincerity of a boa constrictor who says he just wants to give you a cuddle.

I'm sorry to say that as a French but Sunak is from a very different cultural background from us and may not have realise the implications of what he did at the time. My grandfather did fight during the war as so many British, American and others. And the minimum is to give them a little respect for their sacrifice and never forget what they went through. But Sunak's grandfather comes from Pakistan and arrived here in 1960 so it's easy to understand that his family history is not liked to what our families went though. I think this should matter when choosing a prime minister. You wouldn't choose me a French for prime minister so how did Rishi get there even if born here.

Rishi Sunak is the son of immigrants who arrived here some time after WW2. As far as he and his family are concerned D Day is something that happened the other side of the world. They had 'no skin in the game' so to speak. For him it is an historical event, to a Brit it is close to home with many parents and grand parents involved to one degree or another. To the son of an immigrant it has little resonance.
